301 redirect the additional domains to your main domain. Thats your best SEO for them.

I dont know I just told the host to do with the new (TOP SECRET.com) what they did with www.dieselbombers.net.

Im Asking Should I Submit Site Maps under the new domain name also?

Joeychgo

nope.

The extra domain names, in your case, serve no seo purpose.

If you Registered www.vbulletin.info and pointed it here your saying that you wouldnt pick up any SEO from that

I see thats vborgs Link ...lol But when it goes to there page the url changes from .info to .org ... when my extra domains go to my site the extensions and the names stay even when you browse the site the url you came in on stays in the address bar with /thread ect ect after it

So I take it vborg has a 301 on .info domain then what do i have on mine ? and which is better for SEO

By itself, no.

There are only 3 occasions where I would have another domain for a site.

a. I am protecting the domain so nobody else gets it. i.e. vBulletin-faq.org

b. I change the domain for some reason.

b. I merged 2 sites together.

The reason you keep the domain your not using is because it has links pointing to it. By 301 redirecting it to your new domain, your telling search engines that its part of the new domain and to forward link authority to the new domain.

Hence why I have www.vbwebmaster.com (http://www.vbwebmaster.com) pointing to www.vBulletin-faq.com (http://www.vBulletin-faq.com)

OK , IMO if you owned 5000 domain Names and pointed them all here you would get more traffic because of it , But Im not an SEO master as your self

BTW I keep getting this error here on Firebug .......

this.controlobj has no properties
[Break on this error] this.controlobj.state = false;
vbulletin_menu.js (line 159)
vBmenu :: System Activated
this.controlobj has no properties

DM, gotta agree with JoeyChgo in what he says in post #9.

You can have 5000 domain names all re-directed to your site, but you would have to spend 5000 hours spent on getting backlinks for each one of those, ending up with 1 or so back links for each (cr*p).

BUT if you spent 5000 hours getting 5000 backlinks to your one 'true' domain, that would get you nuff PageRank!

I bought similar domain names to my own URL, but only to stop people thieving my SEO efforts. I just 301 re-direct them, nothing else ( I did research more profitable options, but there isn't any). Focus on your one 'true' URL, and joeychgo says - re-direct/and be happy that no one else can steal you domain/SEO efforts.

It's as simple as that, honestly.

Totally agree with this. For Themes by Design, I started out with .net, cuz .com was already taken. Then purchased .org and some other one. Then GoDaddy informed me that .com had come available a few months ago, so I snagged it too. Now NO ONE can benefit from my SEO efforts for the TBD domain on any extension, unless they want to use .info or some outlandish other extension. More power to 'em.

I purchased singleparentsarepeopletoo.com and .net, even tho I'm using the short version - spapt.com and .net.

I'm only seo'ing themesbydesign.net and spapt.com. The others were purchased only to protect the domains.

I did decide to set aside the single parents site tho and put my efforts into TalkOhio.net. I'm very excited about it!

The only benefit of having 500 domains all pointing to a single site is merely a negligible statistical chance that someone might type a random address and get redirected. Unless as everybody has been telling you, you get backlinks for each domain, which by itself is totally unpractical. And really a better result will come if you spend that effort on getting 500 different backlinks from other sites with true SE relevancy.

Let me put it this way... how many people you know that go randomly typing addresses on their web browsers? And how many people you know that follows a link posted on a site they visit? Of course you can keep as many domains as you like but the spiders won't go randomly looking for domain names either.
