Email Notifications To Non Registered Users

We have a private forum that we use to help provide support for our affiliate program. Basically what we did is took out all registration options and then carried the affiliate program session over to the forums (affiliates have to be logged in to their affiliate account to access the forums). Of course since no registration is required there is no subscription notifications by email.

What I would like to do is have it so the original poster of a thread is emailed whenever I reply to their post... I can get the users email from the affiliate program database and send the email but I don't know what file to edit to do this... newreply.php ???

I hope this post made sense and I would appreciate it anyone can point me into the right direction....

Thanks :)

If no-one is registered/logged-on via the vB system, how are the posters identified by vB?

The forum uses the posters affiliate username where the forum usernames are shown for the posts... but there is no actual registration by the affiliate. The sessions are simply carried over from the affiliate program to the forum... so what I need to do is find the place to pull the email address of the original poster from the affiliate database and send them an email letting them know I replied to their thread.

I can do the programming but just need help as to what file(s) and where within them to do this...

Thanks
