Talk bad about DMOZ and get your site removed!

And yes, I am serious...

If you talk bad about the directory then an editor will sit on your site till there is server trouble and you will get your site removed. I am on (ASO) ASmallOrange on the SCOTT server, which has been getting roughly 10-15 minutes of DT in the afternoons and Tim is looking into the situation. In the meantime, I get my site removed by an editor... for what? Yeah, 10-15 minutes of down time.

Now its OK for DMOZ to keep it's listing with that big crash last year, from which they have still not recovered from.

Not to mention the hundreds of CNN links that are dead or in redirect status. http://www.dmoz.org/News/Online_Archives/CNN.com/

Now what bad things did I say?

In the brief time I was an editor I complained that there was no official warning system in place and that without that every editor was at the mercy of the Meta team. I also complained that there was no appeal once you were let go as an editor.

I also ranted and raved because Compost Annie was fired without a warning or a means of appeal...because she listed sites she found on a webmaster forum! (Which by the way is one of the means an editor can use to FIND sites).

I asked that if people wanted to see DMOZ crumble they needed to stand together rather then site around and complain.

I pointed out that Skrenta, an ODP founder not only founded the directory on corruption, he admits it, and in fact still logs in! Almost all of his affiliated sites have multiple listings. Topix itself has well over 10,000 listings (yes, one site with over 10,000 listings!)

I pointed out that the guidelines of the directory itself condone paid listings, provided that such a listing is for SEO reasons and benefits both the editor and the directory.

Editors call me a troll because I pointed out those things.
Editors call me self serving because I listed my own site, even though I was within the guidelines and listed that site as an affiliate. (also, scroll back up and read about Skrenta's 10k listings).

Now my site, on a pretty good host, runs into a few moments of trouble, and I get removed.

Now it's up to you to tell me if I was removed because of a 404, or if some editor had it out for me. (rummage my ODP posts on Digital Point for more information). Or see the second page of THIS THREAD (http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showpost.php?p=4934975&postcount=21) specifically.

I imagine that on some level, they were hoping to shut me up by removing my site, well, sorry...now I'm spreading the good word.

So remember boys & girls, saying DMOZ sucks, now results in getting your site removed. And if you are nice and don't say that it sucks, know that your site is waiting in Queue because editors with the power to list them are too busy watching the sites of those that do complain...

My story does not involve bribes or extortion though...just pointing out flaws in the system to the point that it annoyed an editor. I'm unsure of his story as well, as he never called the editor out that did the extortion.

It's really hard who to believe at times, and thats really sad on the part of the Open Directory Project.

However, one thing is clear, the editors really do seem to dislike Digital Point.

The only reservation I have is to blame all editors. I know there are good ones there.

I was an editor, so I'd never blame them ALL ;)

I also stepped down from being an editor because of how they treated one that was good (they fired her for favoritism for adding reviewed sites that also happened to be owned by DP members ~ I guess she should have asked for money).

Though, the few that are bad, certainly do seem to hold a louder public voice then those that are good...

Damage Control: The link is listed once more. It seems that raising a stink can sometimes get the ball rolling.

They are seemingly going to try again...

It's OK that they make nothing but personal attacks against me, but I point that out & I get repped with threats of site removal.

It's not submit and forget, it's submit and shut up!

EDIT:
It seems that if you complain about DMOZ, its the end user that get's punished. So tell me, it's not about the webmaster...
