Google Adsense tightening up

Mr. J Jones

An anonymous reader writes "Wired reports that Google is making some effort to put a crack in the practice of click-fraud. Because of the pernicious abuse of the company's advertising business, it simply can't be sure that anyone is actually looking at the ads. Bruce Schneier talks about the problems of ensuring that people are really people, and Google's solution." From the article: "Google is testing a new advertising model to deal with click fraud: cost-per-action ads. Advertisers don't pay unless the customer performs a certain action: buys a product, fills out a survey, whatever. It's a hard model to make work — Google would become more of a partner in the final sale instead of an indifferent display of advertising — but it's the right security response to click fraud: Change the rules of the game so that click fraud doesn't matter."

This has been at work with the referrals for quite some time. If they are going to really implement this on the rest of their advertising model I believe they will kill their own golden eggs goose because this would really dramatically decrease the earnings for webmasters and gradually less of them will find a reason to keep Adsense on their websites.

Exactly, I just spent a good deal of time searching .org to figure out how to include Adsense in the two new templates I installed today. It was really rather simple, I just forgot the process.

Anyhow to make a long story short: I'm kind of an anti-ad guy, I don't like visiting sites with adverts plastered all over them. I am trying to make some money on a few of my domains so I've implemented adsense because it's text based for the most part.

I've had the account for almost 2 months, and have been displaying ads on a couple of sites my total earnings aren't even $2 yet. If I don't start making a few bucks soon, I'm going to take them down it's just not worth degrading my sites for pennies!

I really wonder how much Google makes off people who start an account and don't make it over that inital $100 mark to get paid. That's where the real fraud is.
