MySQL has published its first "end of life" timetable for its open-source database and will no longer provide free updates for some older versions of the product starting next month, it said this week.

They will no longer provide free updates to those versions. Good way to make some revenue, especially with the shared hosting market, wich is more likely to rather upgrade those versions to a stable revision than change versions.
