Shelley 08-02-2006, 11:50 AM Started designing some buttons about an hour ago and ended up with these. I'm kinda looking for suggestions, comments, anything that can be improved with this button set.
I've a feeling the font is going to be a problem for some people but I'll see what happens :)
Any feedback is appreciated.

Afraid not. People are finding it hard to read the orange on black/red base so I've opted for a colour correction and choose a white font rather than orange.
I'm still working with the button set but the final set will be white text. :)

Peggy 08-02-2006, 01:14 PM I am glad you changed the font color, but the size is very hard for me to read.
Other than that, very nice ;)
semann 08-02-2006, 01:17 PM i liked the orange T_T
Hell³ 08-02-2006, 01:40 PM The design is very nice, but as OS mentioned, the font is a little hard to read. Are you using antialias on this font?, pixel and bitmap fonts should be used without antialiasing, and might also consider using another font.

I knew right from the onset that the fonts would pose a problem. I just thought (and still think) that a pixel font was the best choice for these type of buttons. I found another free pixel font which appears slightly larger though I'm not so keen that it's more expanded (which really puts me off these). I've updated the preview (shown below), Font any clearer peggy?
Thanks for the comments :)

I may release an orange text set with white text on the red based buttons (multi-quote, Closed butttons). After all the suggestions at .org (and I would have to agree with them) it's very hard to read the text esp on the red based buttons.
semann 08-02-2006, 02:04 PM try using visitor font
Demojames 08-02-2006, 02:25 PM Nice Job, I like those. The last set.

Golden rule is never to use anti-aliasing on pixel fonts and I've never used anti-aliasing on these or any other Pixel font. Thus far, I've used two different pixel fonts and am ready to try that "visitors" font that semann suggested.
try using visitor font
You don't happen to have a link to this font semann?
edit: found it semann.
semann 08-02-2006, 03:00 PM the visitors one is the one that appears in userbars
Hell³ 08-02-2006, 03:08 PM Yeah I've noticed that the first font was the problem, not really suited for your buttons. The second one is more readable, but then it kind of breaks the proportions. But it's not a big problem, I can see the second font work just fine.
Peggy 08-02-2006, 03:15 PM while not perfect, the last font is certainly more readable than the first.
I don't believe I've ever used pixel fonts so I'm not familiar with the difficulty of using them.

My thoughts exactly. I found that the second font does kinda break the proportions and I can possibly resolve this by giving the buttons a wider width. Trouble is I'm really not keen on the second font. I may go with the visitors fornt and bold it. :)
You've confirmed it for me that the second font won't be getting used on these buttons. :)
