does it effect SEO, if my child skin/style is used as the default (and only) skin for a forum?
ie: is it beneficial to only have one skin for SEO? or is that transparent?

One should think that it is transparent... you're only modding the appearence... not the content...

I've been under the impression that SE's pretty much ignore the css and formatting, and just look at the content unless it's hosed up enough to break up the actual content.

well.. I would THINK so but take this case:
you have a default template and child template of that one.
there ARE times when you make an edit to the CHILD template but NOT the default template (for whatever reason).
now you technically have TWO templates for teh same content page. if both are active...and two users are both using different ones. ..
which one is being crawled?
what if you disable the default one? is it only reading the childone? what if you enable it again? or a NEW skin. it has totally different header.
doesn't this all sound seem bad to a crawler?

unless you're continually changing the default skin for your forum in the style and language settings under the vbulletin options, (wich is the one all guests use, and a spider is usually a guest user) your case scenario wouldn't really be an issue.

hi,
if you use invisible text in your template this may hurt your SEO campain or get banned.

White text on white background - for example.
But I won't resort to renaming you ;)

I couldn't find it in my heart to take you up on your offer - You're just too smart (and nice) to call dumb :p
Besides which, I might have got you on this one, but you can probably drill me on a host of other issues.
