I take it that they are basically the same thing, but what are the major differences, and which is better.
opinions?

Comparing them side by side can produce some results. However, it would be better to assess them based on your needs. What do you want and which can do that best may be and easier means to an end.
Personally, I have found I can do most anything with vBadvanced CMPS. I have no experience with the other. I have to admit though, sometimes the logic behind doing some things in vBa can be confusing, but it's generally one of three possibilities to play with and sorted out pretty quickly.
Permissions are usually the most confusing part of an OS or Application IMO. vBA is no exception. That is just the nature of the beast with permissions, not a flaw.
So anyway, what do you want to do on you home page? I had a nice ladie bring me an HTML page once and was able to duplicate it in vBa. It's very powerful.

The reason I'm shopping around is that support for vBa is sparse. I can't get answers to questions on their site, a couple of modules still aren't working and the SAME modules aren't working for several different people, but noone can get an answer.
However, support seems to be pretty good on the vBdrupal thread on vb.org.

I don't know of any bugs like that. What exactly don't work? Do you have it installed to show an example?

sure, it's been installed for months. Ever since I upgraded to vb 3.5.4, the Recent threads module doesn't work and Site news doesn't work. Many people are having this problem, as evidenced on the vba site.

Recent threads always shows No Threads to display.
For site news, I selected certain forums to pull news from and it shows everything BUT what I selected, lol
EDITED... site news isn't showing at all now

I know... don't worry about it, LOL.. I may uninstall and reinstall or install vbDrupal.
NOONE at vba is answering... been 11 days now. Alot of people are getting upset. I'm not, I figure I can live without it if I have to, but I'd rather have a portal page.
ALL of it worked perfectly prior to upgrading to 3.5.4

Ok, I took the plunge and uninstalled vba, and went to vbDrupal. Installed it, followed the directions to edit the config.php file altho I'm not sure at all that I got the path correct...
then put the url in my vbDrupal settings in admincp and got all KINDS of errors.
I've asked for help on both the drupal support forums, but so far, no answer, lol. God I really don't want to spend all day doing this

Drupal is an extremely poweful and flexible cms. It just has really bad forums ;) I'm using it separately to create the website for Alleria, with the user database separately. For the normal user it should intergrate seemlessly in terms of look and feel, and it will be easy enough to intergrate vB logins & other things I think. Drupal makes it really easy to intergrate php snippets into it, so...yah :)
I absolutely love drupal, but the vBdrupal looks very clumsy for the most part.
You can view my drupal installation here: http://www.alleria.com/index.php , and the forums http://www.alleria.com/forums some links won't work yet :) and there is next to no content, but we have over 800 articles to upload :D

Okay, I just installed vbDrupal. You need to have user 1 around from vBulletin to give you admin access if you are a manager rather than an owner like me, but it's working out pretty nicely! Wootness :) Drupal is designed for community, whereas vBulletin is basically the best in its field at the forum business. By combining the two, you get the best of both worlds really!
