I'm just wondering can I make vBulletin think the adsense spider is a registered user?
I'm thinking of hiding a couple of forums on my board and would like the spider to be able to crawl. Anyway I can do it based on IP?
Thanks in advanced,
Dan

that would be cloaking, and could easily get you banned from google's index...
Besides, why hide those forums, and then let them be visible in search engines?

That would also be based on the user agent which could be faked and that just makes your private forums available if someone wants to see them bad enough. So it's probably a bad idea.
That is one way YPN is better then Adsense. They let you set a topic to target ads at and that circumstance is eliminated.

I dunno man. I'd recommend you NOT use that. When the search engines can see different content then guests, as pointed out, that is cloaking. That is a banable offense.

Thanks, I didn't know that would be considered cloaking. That's the first I've heard of that term so I won't do so.
Just for clarifaction; I didn't want the GoogleBot to gain access, I wanted the Adsense bot to so it would be able to "target" advertisments.

In either event, it allows the circumvention of vBulletin security. I'd check the TOS on private pages and adsense. We have two posts of adsense bans today already. You don't want to be next.
Better safe then sorry.

Besides, since Big Daddy it appears that the previous clear separation between the regular Googlebots and the AdSense bots is a thing of the past. You'd best assume that if AdSense can see it, Google will index it.
