My forum email notifications sometimes look like this:


http://forum.psychlinks.ca/showthread.php?t=4845

which takes you to the first post instead of the latest post in the thread.

Other emails show this:


http://forum.psychlinks.ca/showthread.php?t=4657&goto=newpost

which takes you to the newest post.

How do I ensure that all notifications use the second format?

I think one is a forum subscription and the second a thread subscription. But I'm not certain. I didn't try to duplicate the actions nor do I know how you are getting either sent and under what part of vB.

the latter is a thread subscription with instant email notification. That's done on a thread by thread basis. There is no setting in the acp to make ALL notifications do that, that I know of anyway.

I'm also not sure why you're getting email notifications that take you to the first post rather than the last one.

I think what's happening is that these are leftover forum subscriptions from SMF. It's telling me there's a new post in that forum but sending me to the forum or topic, not the "newest" post.

The problem is that they don't show up as forum subscriptions in my ACP. Perhaps if I susbscribe to the thread itself, I'll get new post notifications instead?

That's what I'm thinking is the case for the notifications. Give it a go.

OK, that didn't work. However, I discovered something else today.

This seemed to be happening on only one forum. When I was first stumbling around the ACP, I edited that forum and inserted my email address into the fields "Email Addresses to Notify When there is a New Post" and "Email Addresses to Notify When there is a New Thread". Since this wasn't the standard forum notification, it didn't show up as subscribed forums in mu User CP.

I've now deleted those. We'll see if it reverts to normal notifications now.
