I want to be able to verify deletions of threads or posts by moderators. In SMF and phpBB, I set up a recycle bun basically from which only an admin can physically delete the post or thread.

How do I do this in vB?

make a trash forum like we have here.

go into your acp ---> Forums and moderators ---> Forum Manager.
Click on Add New Forum at the bottom. Unless you have a staff lounge, which most admins do then you can make it a child forum of that.

Set Posting options...
Forum is active... no
forum is open... no

I'm the only one who's permitted to delete threads on my forum, so my mods move threads and posts there, so that I can look them over prior to deleting... or putting it back ;)

Don't forget to apply the proper permissions at the group level so they cannot be seen by anyone except mods and supermods and admins in forum permisssions. ;)

Long time no see minstrel. How the hell are ya?

if they're closed per my instructions above, wouldn't he just have to set the permissions for those 3 groups to be able to see them?

Maybe I had it backwards, lol

Check the notes, not avtive can still be seen if accessed via the forum id directly although it won't show up on forum home or forum display.

Okay. So it's a matter of disallowing all deletes, leaving moderators with only the option of moving to "trash"?

Actually, there's no way of taking away their deleting privileges. It's standard vB feature for mods and admins.
You just have to set the rules and hope they follow them.

Moving is a policy. I have never had a problem with a mod deleting once informed of the procedure.
