This is my first pay work done on starting my new site...

The skin design for a brand new forums run by a php expert phpMySql Forums (http://www.phpmysqlforum.com/)
he requested the design should be little cartoony & professional in style with green colour combo...

I designed and coded it in less then 36hrs and handed over the files, client says he is happy about the result...

I created the logo, buttons, and few icons (except the smiley icon)and replaced 90% of vB default images...

I like to know what others think of this style...

That looks pretty nice, miner. Good job. I noticed the notification icons for new and no new posts are almost identical, except for the animation on new posts. If a member/visitor has animation turned off, there will be no difference. If it were my forum, I would be embarrassed not to have new posts for all my visitors. Maybe you could change the no new posts icon a little to have him appear slightly embarrassed -- a little pinkish in the face.

Anyway, you should be proud. It looks real good.

R'gards,

Jim

This is really nice miner! I love the forum markers guy, the colors are great. NICE header.
I have only 2 issues with it.

First, like Jim said, the difference between the new posts and no new posts guy.
I have animations turned off, so there's no noticeable difference between the two icons. A great majority of the people who have dial-up internet access will have it shut off for faster page loading. So this won't work for them.

Second, the category strip should have been just a bit taller. The cat name and description look a bit crowded into it, with the cat name right at the top edge and the description sitting right on the bottom of it. Perhaps there should have been a bit of space left on the top and bottom.

Of course this is all just my opinion. All in all, I think it's wonderful! I really like the "brackets" on either side of the cat strips. Nice touch

I have the same comments on the header and crowded text.

As for the brackets, being a php guy, I don't think they come even close to conveying the idea. But I gather they speced that and not you.

While the use of <?php ?> is best to use. The old <? ?> would convey the idea best IMO.

miner if you keep up with the site after he has some posts, I'd like to see it then too. I'd love to see what all you came up with as far as postbit icons, buttons, etc.

Good suggestion i will change the cat image a little bigger and the new post icons...
Thanks....

Good idea i will implement that...

well, your forum markers look an awful lot like the ones for sale here: http://www.livepencil.com
which are copyrighted

which also makes me wonder where the image in the header for this design, http://www.forum-lance.com/?styleid=31 , came from? Is it royalty free with resell rights?

1) As said in my first post i didnt create that but got it from a gfx resource site where i am paid member and have rights to use them in my commercial projects...

so question about copyrights not arise here...
This was informed to my customer who purchased this skin and he accepted to use this.

2) The image you reffer is taken from 2 royalty free stock images which have been purchased to use in my commercial project and further customised by me to suit the style.

i have the purchase receipt paid thro paypal for both with me.

well, I know you are selling this design as unique with full rights, you should disclose that in the sale with proof you have resell rights, otherwise you could get in big trouble ;) same goes with the smilies, most gfx sites won't allow their work to be resold, even if you paid for them...just friendly advice.

Maybe I'm missing something here? Did you not read his post or choose to ignore it?

He made it very clear those things have happened from what I see.

Do you have an agenda?

ah well thanks for your good advice and i always use others images with permission or purchace them and file the receipt with me safe so if any problem arise i would show the proof...

I double check with the authors whether i am allowed to use in my designs...

good night its 2.30 am have to get some sleep...

I have no agenda. I do know a little bit about the skin business, however, and am not stupid. If you are going to allow someone to sell or give away stuff here you would be well advised to make sure that things are not copyright violated.

hmmm...I paid for that design on the open market as unique...perhaps I was ripped  Do you have a link where these are sold? I'm not picking on you Miner, but when you ask for $400 for a design as unique, it sure had better be...and what you just linked is perhaps a perfect reason why.

and thats a load...I don't and most reputable designers don't. I don't want to argue either...there is other stuff I could bring up here but I won't...perhaps I'll PM you first.
