I put this together for the moderators of my forum, I figured it may help some of you.

I've been feilding a couple of questions on using moderator permissions here at ODJT. I figured things were self-explanitory but not everyone is geek like myself. http://ourdjtalk.com/images/smilies/square/biggrin.gif

You can only moderate the forums you're assigned too.

Here are some screen shots along with captions, click for full size:

This is the thread listing on your forum as the moderator you should see checkboxes next to each thread. Click on the thread you wish to work with then:

Use the drop down menu to do what you wish the most used are close/open stick and unstick.

That's how to deal with entire threads, now within threads:

Moderators can edit any post in their forum just as the would their own by clicking the edit button. If you do edit a post, fill out the reason for editing part.

The checkbox system is also available in threads themselves, this works the same as the inline checkbox system on thread listing.

Additonally when writing a new message you have the option of closing or sticking the thread after you post this is at the bottom of the reply screen.

Well there you have it, if you have an additional questions feel free to post here.

Hope it helps someone. :p Is there anything you guys think I can add?

Looks good Danny. I had to do one for my Mods back when we first started as they were confused as to what Moderating was all about.

I have a set of basic moderator guidelines in my staff lounge. But my mods aren't assigned a certain area or forum, they mod the whole place.

How I wish I could do that but my girls have their own "subject of expertise" and don't want to be responsible for the entire board.

I can understand that and with a board your size, that's the ideal way to do it.
But my board is smaller, and my "subject matter" is pretty universal, lol.. so it works for us ;)

I had considered not using moderators and just having all the mods be supermods. I ran into some problems with the regular moderators not liking the idea of a supermod thus I reassigned the SMs to a forum as moderators.

Peg, is there an easy way to assign the a moderator the position of moderator on all forums or do you have to assign them to each forum individually?

Thanx,
Dan

when you make someone a mod, they automatically mod the entire place, UNLESS you assign them to certain forums. when I made you a mod, that's all I did, was move you to the moderators usergroup (not supermod) and you can mod the whole board. If I were to assign you to a certain forum, then you could mod only that forum

How simple is that? I learn something new every day. Thanx :)

As humans we always tend to make things harder than they really are.
I do it everyday, lol

Yeah digging up an ancient thread here, sorry folks.

I can't see the images, and I think this is exactly what I'm looking for! heh.

I got a bunch of mods who need training with the vB options (some of them can't find the link to close threads, and end up thinking they can't close threads even though they moderate their own area >.< ) we moved over from phpBB a while ago when I took over the forums, and the staff there were used to phpBB, however vB is different and some of the individual area mods aren't too savvy with things *but they're mods because they are leaders of that particular part of the game or OOC resource. (such as graphics area would get the team leader as a moderator) Unfortunately, as said, they're not too forum moderation savvy and have to prod either a SuperMod of myself to lock threads sometimes.

I'm wondering, is there a help guideline anywhere that Mods can use? or every Admin creates their own?

I had moved the images and forgot to update this thread, it's not the default vB template but everything is in the same place.

Editing Thread Titles:

The only way to edit a thread title is by double clicking in the thread cell on forum display.
