friscogal 09-04-2006, 02:26 PM so, the little profile info part on the upper right hand corner is all wonky...
it says:
location: 5/27/06
it is supposed to say:
wedding date: 5/27/06
location: marin county
i checked the "User Profile Field Manager" and everything looks ok there...should i go into the template?

I can help you with this. You have to write a statement in the postbit. BRB
OK this goes wherever you want inside your postbit or postbit legacy template.
<if condition="$post['field5']"><div>$vbphrase[wedding_date]: $post[field5]</div></if>
Make sure your field number is correct. Mine is 5 but I don't know what yours may be. You can get that from the User Profile Field Manager.
friscogal 09-04-2006, 02:38 PM ok, let me try and i will be be right back...sometimes i feel like such a tard because i dont know the proper lingo, etc...

I don't really know the proper terms yet either. I know that my DH put this part in for me and showed me how to do it.
Peggy 09-04-2006, 03:09 PM there may be proper terminology, but half the time, I just use words like thingee, or doomajigger, or thingamabob... and everyone around here seems to know what I'm saying. So I don't worry about it, lol
friscogal 09-04-2006, 03:13 PM ok, i got it to pull the correct data BUT now i am missing some info..
like it says:
location: marin county
: 5/27/06
: cabo
instead of:
location: marin county
wedding date: 5/27/06
wedding location: cabo
i know this is an easy fix and went into postbit but it looks ok..
<if condition="$post['field1']"><div>$vbphrase[location_perm]: $post[field1]</div></if>
<if condition="$post['age']"><div>$vbphrase[age]: $post[age]</div></if>
<div>
<if condition="$post['field2']"><div>$vbphrase[wedding_date]: $post[field2]</div></if>
<if condition="$post['field3']"><div>$vbphrase[wedding_location]: $post[field3]</div></if>
It looks like you're missing the phrases. Let me get into my Admin CP. BRB

my husband is supposed to be helping me but he can't get to my "honey-do" list fast enough so i try to do it myself and he gets so annoyed when i try to describe an issue i am having beacause he is a true tech/web geek and when i explain my forum issues, he looks at me like i am speaking another language...thank god for you girls
OK You have to go into Languages and Phrases ---> Phrase Manager ---> Add New Phrase.
Here is what you need to add into the fields:
Custom Phrase
Product : Vbulletin
Varname: wedding_date
Text : Wedding Date
Translations
English (US) : Wedding Date
And then save it...

Mine doesn't want to be bothered until I really screw something up like I did last night. I found out you can't be in the Admin CP making changes and in the config.php file making changes at the same time. :p

What version of Vbulletin do you have? Mine is 3.5.4 currently.

like how are we supposed to know that!! i think my hubby is over me trying to create my own forum...especially since he is overworked with paying clients as is.

mine is 3.6
Peggy 09-04-2006, 03:35 PM why can't she just add a new profile field Tanya?
mine is 3.6
OK then go ahead and use what it has.
why can't she just add a new profile field Tanya?
Because the user profile field only puts out the answer and not the phrase. You have to have a phrase created in order to show the fields name. I don't think I did a good job of explaining that. :p
I hope I understood the question :p.
friscogal 09-04-2006, 03:50 PM it didn't work...
friscogal 09-04-2006, 03:53 PM Did It!! thanks Tanya...i had to add the phrase as a "GLOBAL" phrase
Did It!! thanks Tanya...i had to add the phrase as a "GLOBAL" phrase
Looks like I'm going to have a hard time after my upgrade to 3.6 haha. Maybe you can then help me. There is no global phrase in 3.5.4. eeeeeeeeeeeeek!

Sure there is, however, 3.6 does it different now. I'm not sure where you are stuck, so I can't be of much help really. But I'll keep reading and if get it, I'll jump back in.
You two, while I had no clue, seemed to be doing fine, so I stayed out of it. :p

No, we got it. It's just that I'm still running 3.5.4 and she's on 3.6 and there is a difference so we sort of helped each other out in solving the issue. In 3.5.4 there is nothing that says "global" it says "English".

yup...
yup...
Oh good. If I have problems I'll be looking for you!
Hell³ 09-04-2006, 04:40 PM There were global phrases in 3.5.x all right. I know, I had to create some.

Where exactly? So I can go look and see.
OK I found it...after clicking on Languages & Phrases it's set as default in the drop down box at the very top and then at the very bottom you can click on "Add New Phrase." Got it Hell!
Hell³ 09-04-2006, 05:00 PM Sorry I didn't replied, besides not remembering from the top of my head, the internet down here south of the border it's all wonky. Glad you found it tho.
noppid 09-04-2006, 05:05 PM Languages & Phrases > Language Manager > Phrase Type
It's a drop down menu.
