A few of my vB sites...

Hi All

Here's a few of my vB sites:

theMouthPiece.com (http://www.themouthpiece.com) : A Brass Musicians Discussion forum with a custom skin designed by Miko of vBStyles.com. I have a few other styles on there too just in case peeps don't like the graphically rich default theme. I have been going for just about 2 years and am pleased with the uptake of membership. Feel free to take a peek.

BBSSClan (http://www.bbssclan.com) : Having been watching what I have been up to for the past 2 years on my site, my 14yr old son decided he would like to try his hand at it. He is getting very much into Unreal Tournament and has started building a Clan where he holds team competitions and matches online against other clans around the world. He has only been going a month or so and is building it up nicely.

RainbowSunbeams (http://www.rainbowsunbeams.com) : Hmmm... my wife said to me a few months ago... if you can't beat them, join them... so - she owns and runs a few PreSchool Playgroups and asked if I could set up a forum for these. This is very much in its infancy (please excuse the pun!!) at the moment and Jen is trying to think of ways to further develop the site. Any thoughts, ideas or suggestions on how we can improve this site or any of them.. please do drop us a line.

theGamesMaster (http://www.thegamesmaster.com) : And finally... still in its pre-launch stage - it is another site my son wants to build up, run and manage. I know there are a plethora of these already in existence, but I thought I'd encourage him in his quest to learn and develop his web skills. He wants to see how it goes so I purchased a leased license to run with. We had the header designed in a contest over at SitePoint - which I think looks very nice. I will be looking to kick this off in a few weeks with him unless of course we can get any members here to sign up over there and help get it started. Would be really grateful if anyone wants to help.

There you go... enjoy or otherwise...;)

Oooh - don't know about that Anthony. There's a lot of experienced people who will be joining VBW who I am sure are far more knowledgable than I.

I would be willing to help out around here if anyhelp was needed though. Always ready to lend a hand.

And - POOF - The Magic Man is a moderator. I know talent when I see it.

No, I would just try to ban Minstrel then, I make a better member than Moderator at all the forums, I really do not have the time to do it nor the desire.

Kit you have to tell me what site or exactly what you are talking about, remember, there are few mind readers on forums, you do need to post what you are talking about so we can respond. :) :p :p

Uhh... I'm trying to put it as clearly as I can ;)

Do you do your own graphics and design on your sites

Perhaps someone else can intervene and put in the key item I'm missing to clear up the question

Well, most of the stuff is just done by using the page design systems provided by www.squarespace.com on the two sites in my signature.

I did not design anything, only picked out the styles, fonts, colors and the software generates the pages automatically. I am good at starting an idea but do need help with programming and site design.

I did create the content other than the outside links we refer to on the sites.

I do conduct a lot of research on the industry and try to report as honestly as I can to the community without bias toward any company.

I have favored companies and have trashed the same when they do wrong, so I can tell you I am pro user and not pro any company. I am not on any of their payrolls at this time so I try to remain objective, but I will hammer away at injustice if I think they are wronging the community.

My latest whipping boy is Microsoft because of the IE/Windows flaws that seem to be never ending.

I think he might have thought that I did the templates and everything Joey.

Thanks for the interest, Squarespace is an ASP that is open ended enabling anyone to put up a website/blog/forum.

The young man that created it is a 21 year old college student and he will be doing 10 million a month before you know it.

Great CMS publishing system he has developed with automatic syndication built into the journals.

Hi KitKramer

Well, I need to provide a more elaborate answer for you. The BBSSClan and GamesMaster sites use commercially available vB themes: BBSSClan from vBStyles and theGamesMaster from ExtremePixels, so the style actually is the property of their authors and can't be used without purchasing them. However, the headers for each of these are 100% customisable and the logo's and header design in mine.

For thegamesMaster, I ran a contest over at SitePoint where there were some fantastic entries submitted before I finally decided on the one you see on the site. I now own copyright on all those images in the header.

As for theMouthPiece - this was a totally customised and unique style where I now own the copyright on everything you see... the graphics, templates, design and style are all owned by me. I also try to customise some of the purchased styles too. I have a 'Clean' style on tMP that I have changed accordingly.

Hope that answers your question.

Kit, remember what I told you, on a forum we can not read your mind, you fooled all 3 of us, in the future use names and address the questions directly to that person.

Thanks for the interest, at least you got us ALL stirred up......

KitKramer

On most forums, you generally respond to the author of a thread, I just assumed that applied here too ;)

AnthonyCea

Maybe that is why Joey has you around to get the forum stirred up a bit Kit....

Just a quick update to mention that I have installed the vB links system by Brian over at vBAdvanced on www.themouthpiece.com/links. Please feel free to add your site to the links... only if you want to register though.
