Infinite 01-15-2005, 09:54 PM What hacks would you consider must have? For me, this would include:
The adsense pointing to the archive hack that I mentioned on this site (http://www.vbwebmaster.com/forums/showthread.php?p=923#post923).
Changing the thread title so it just includes the thread title and not the vb board name.
vbadvanced portal (since I am lazy and don't feel like coding the entire front page).
An htaccess hack to make it so my showthread.php pages are turned into .html pages with the threadname included in the url (hey, every bit helps for SE optimization IMO).
So, what are yours?
Joeychgo 01-15-2005, 10:19 PM These are the hacks I recommend to ANY vBulletin Forum - there are others which are important for specific types of sites to have - but these are what I think every board should have and what I would also like to see implemented in vBulletin 4.0 as I think they are essential hacks for almost any VB Forum.
vBadvanced CMPS Portal Hack (http://www.vbadvanced.com/products.php?do=productinfo&p=4)
Its clean and what I like most is that its automatically conditional - meaning you can easily make it so unregistered guests - visitors - spiders can see one page - and registered members can see another - and if you have another usergroup - they can see yet another. Basically its customizable by usergroup - and you can easilay make additional pages - which are also customizable by usergroup.
vB Easy Archive - Search Engine Spiderable Hack! (http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=65703)
This hack will help get all your threads listed in google and other search engines and get your threads easily spidered! It works by creating an archive and turning all your posts into .html format. It doesn't actually create the .html files though, but google thinks they are real! The purpose of this hack are to get your keywords from your forums listed in google and get people visiting them! Since these are all pure text and don't use tables or excess font tags, they are very friendly on bandwidth! This will display all your files in a nice text format that google will absolutely love!
New User Welcome PM Hack (http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=63269)
This hack will send any new users a welcome PM.
AdColumns Hack (http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=62348)
This hack will allow you to toggle between (or have both) right/left column sidebars on your forum allowing you to insert Advertisements, Banners or whatever else you desire.
Who Was Online Today on forums (http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=59579)
This hack shows the users who visited your forums in the last 24 hours (or today).
Dynamic Announcements: Programmable Forum Home Announcement/Message with conditionals
This hack allows you to post powerful dynamic announcements (changing according to different conditions) on forum home page. It differs from vbulletin's default announcements in 2 ways:
The announcement is displayed in forum home page, not inside thread view. So visitors will read them on home page without clicking any links.
The Hack's announcements are not static: ie. they can be powerfully programmed to display themselves according to many conditions.
CommBull (Community Bulletin) Hack (http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=64189)
This hack is considered a "weekly newsletter" by the fact that it will email members (only sent by an admin) who have opted to receive it new posts, hot threads, etc ... basically a summary of what has been going on since the last time the newsletter was sent out. However there is a vast number of options, and I won't go into detail of all of them
paratek 02-26-2005, 05:11 AM I assume CommBull is what you use here to send out the newsletter?

Joeychgo 03-02-2005, 02:43 PM I would love such a hack - but a good one - like you get in MS word where it underlines misspells
High Octane 05-26-2005, 04:36 AM Now this is the kind of info I have been looking for!
Joeychgo 05-26-2005, 07:06 AM Glad you found it.
High Octane 05-28-2005, 04:20 PM Question,
What VB.org hack will allow me to use an exhisting PHP page and intregrate it into my forums, using skins and permissions?
I have searched and searched, but nothing seems to meet my needs.
none really. The coding would have to be added to that php page you want to use. Perhaps something like CMPS would help.
