WHat kind of contests have you run?

I have one going on my forum now. It is a refer your friends, the one that refers the most will get a copy of SEO Book.

The forum is still new, and I still don't have everything exactly how I want it.

There is a referal system with VB, I know when I setup the configuration I turned that on. I thought that should make their referal links show up in their CP. But I don't see them. Any ideas?

Also, I know I have seen some forms give points for posts. How do I do something like this?

I have riderinfo.com t-shirts. I'd like to give a few away.

I was thinking a referal contest, but how?

I don't want to do these and have only one member able to win with crappy numbers. Any suggestions?

Judging was simple. My mods and I narrowed the field down to 3 entries and then ran a poll for the members to decide which of the three would win.

Promotion was simple also. I went to various boards and posted the contest link. Only a site or two has a problem with us doing this. In your case, you might want to ask a handful of Bike Clubs to toss it in your newsletter.

I run monthly 'Caption Competitions'. No prize but always well entered... Here are some examples... We recently just finished a brilliant contest where we asked tMP'ers to write a piece of music as our signature tune. The competition was called the tMP Composition Competition (http://www.themouthpiece.com/vb/showthread.php?t=11630&highlight=composers+competition). We had dozens of entires and got the services of an eminent composer to pick the final 5. We put these final 5 into scorch files and hosted them in an online poll with the voting hidden. tMP'ers were then asked to listen to each entry and voste for their fav. We have a concert coming up in a few weeks (http://www.themouthpiece.com/vb/showthread.php?t=11644&highlight=hadleigh)where we will be premiéring this winning march. We will then be selling the piece online and proceeds will go to tMP...:)

We run a Christmas Quiz each year - with loads of general knowledge questions and great prizes. Here is 2004's (http://www.themouthpiece.com/vb/showthread.php?t=11530&highlight=quiz) competition.

We run a fantastic 'tMP BOC Brother' [aka our name for Big Brother] where we run silly events and embarrass those selected to take part in a silly games and challenges. We set up a few forums (now hidden) to act as the house and last year was great fun indeed.

We have run 6 months live, 12 months live and 24 months live contests - with silly categories like, funniest thread, banding boffin, et al... though these categories are again archived now.

How's that...?

1st place = 1000 MB of 1 year free hosting

2nd = 500 MB of 1 year free hosting

Register - Post - reffer people to the site - at the end of the month i will check who has the most reffarls and that person wins. 1 2 and 3 places.

O yea if you are interested in getting it faster we could always use a newer skin for the forums :D

No - I dont hate you for it.

You can talk about your forum all you want here. It isnt cool to go to my lincoln forum and try to recruit my members though. Like I told you - McDonalds wouldnt let Burger King come in their dining room and hand out flyers.

Most of us have made that same mistake. Dont sweat it.
