I've been starting to integrate my eBay promotion into my forums recently. I've promoted eBay on sites for a couple months, but not in forums.

If anyone has any experience with eBay promotion via forums please share your experiences here.

Give us a better idea on what you are doing so we can understand exactly where you are going with this....

Are you dropping links in threads or simply running banners on your forums?

FJ is a serial thread starter, he wants us to fill in the blanks.

He gives us a blank coloring book and expects us to make the picture pretty :D :p :p

You guys crack me up :) Anthonycea, that coloring book comparison is dead on :D

Really what I'm after is everyone's experience with promoting eBay through your forum. Lot sof forums run Adsense...you're pretty limited with what you can do their. There's about 5 places you can put it and that's about it.

With eBay though you ca use banners, text links put it sigantures, welcome e-mails, etc, etc. Not nearly as many limitations as Adsense. Not to mention the payout can be pretty substantial.

I've been experimenting with placing text links in the showthread template and customizing those links so they match the section forum. In a section that talks about Baseball for example I may have a baseball gloves link and in the football section have a link to football jerseys.

When it comes to eBay we can talk conversion and be a little more specific. I just dropped a baseball related eBay link in the baseball section of my sports forum. It's been there for about 2 weeks and has averaged about a 3.5% CTR. It's hooked me 9 new eBay members too...and that pays pretty nice :D

eBay & forums - how can forum owners use eBay to help make some $$$ for their forum?

Like Shawn mentioned at DP, affiliate programs take "work" so you will have to leave text links everywhere and be creative to make any program work.

I seen an Adwords ad yesterday on something and clicked on it and it took me to an Amazon page on a "blog book" so this guy was buying Adwords using blogs as the keyword only to take those who responded to his Amazon page on the blog book.

Leaving text links in forums is sort of fuzzy as far as the forum owner himself doing it, but everyone has to make a living to stay online long term.

Whatever works to keep the forum online and make money is great I guess, maybe a better way is to have separate pages like we are discussing with Joey on the "Top 10 web hosts", that way he can sell advertising to those hosts that don't make the top 10 list.

You could also have a "forum store" where you could link to your affiliate pages instead of leaving links in threads that may turn your members off after a while.

They will certainly find out that you are doing this in a hurry and that may be bad for the forum in the end.
