Minimum post count required to start a thread in 1 forum. Possible?

I run a car related site/forum and have a seperate For Sale forum for my registered members to sell their cars/parts in.

I was wondering if I could make that 1 forum available to new threads only to those that have a certain number of posts. Basically, I want to stop someone from regisitering with the sole purpose of only selling parts and not joining in with discussion. Maybe posting only allowed if the user has 50 previous posts?

Is this possible?

Thanks,

Bob

P.S. New to this site and having alot of fun reading all the posts!

Shawn at Digital Point has a 50 post minimum for buy, sell or trade I think, so yes you can and should do it as a way for members to get involved in the community, this is a way to reward them for participation.

Yup easily.

What I suggest is that you create a new usergroup. Have the 'registered users' usergroup with minimal privaleges. (ie cant post in this forum, cant use this feature, no signature, etc) Then have the new usergroup with full privaleges.

vBulletin allows you to setup automatic usergroup promotions, so that users who meet specific criteria (such as number of posts) are moved into or become a secondary member of another usergroup, generally with greater permissions. By default, promotions are checked hourly. You can read about how to set up a promotion here (http://www.vbulletin.com/docs/html).

This is all stock in vBulletin 3.xx so no need for a hack.
