Many strange things are going on with google right now. Im not complaining much, because my LVC site has just grown and grown in the rankings. But many are seeing losses.
What does everything think is going on?

I wouldn't know how to even find out if something was going on Joey except to see where my PR is... and as far as I know it is the same as it has been for nearly a year now!!

I'll be writing some articles on this soon.
Basically, its about determining the best keyword phrases to chase after, and monitoring your site's ranking for those phrases.

Reading you guys expert threads on SEO et al since joining up here has prompted me to try to learn a little about it and I read a very interesting thread over on Sitepoint earlier today which basically said Google doesn't work... simple as that.
I must dig it out and post the link here so you could see his argument. A lot of it was beyond me as I am still learning but I guess posting it here might help explani some of it...
*off I go....*
EDIT: Here it is... http://www.sitepoint.com/forums/showthread.php?t=230965
Might be an interesting read for many of us here.

Yeah, I thought it was good too. I suppose you will always get both sides of the argument with one side saying Google doesn't work and the other saying that people are disgruntled at not having a hig enough PR with Google. I always find that the latter are the ones with perhaps the weaker argument... saying things such as "you only want a higher PR with them", and "what's your gripe with Google" offers an easy argument/point with little substance.
You always get that type of banter on forums...:)

People place too much emphasis on PR, its true. But PR is part of the equasion. You dont see too many pr 1 sites at the top when you search for something.
But PR is not the end all be all, there are still on page factors such as Keyword density, page title and description, (among other things) and off page factors such as backlinks (links to your site) and the anchor text that those links use, as well as the kinds of sites those links come from.
PR works hand in hand with all this. How high you rank for a particular term is dependant on how relevant your site is to the term and how strong the competition is for that phrase, then PR kicks in.
Pr is more a general measure of your site, if it was the end all be all you would see yahoo and ebay at the top of every search.
Hope that makes some sense, its 3:00am here LOL

But I think You missed the point Joe. He's saying if the other engines can find things and rank them somewhat consistantly, then google is broke.
I disagree, goggle is not broke. It's exactly the pay for position SE they wanted. IMO they created a reputation and were then influenced by money. Maybe that was the plan all along, build a reputation and then suddenly make ads the priority. Look at the blind loyality they have from some folks, they are getting good milage from it.
I know it takes money to run a business, but this is no longer the google that folks used to depend on for content, it's where ya get ads pertinant to your search term for the most part now.
Who is first depends on what they spent, not how good the content is at their site.
vBulletin admins are the minorty using adsense to get members, most adsense users are selling something and expect a return on their investment dollars, not just members.
What do you use adsense for? To make money, all those ads go to people looking to sell something, not give you the latest hot tip on something for free.
