I don't really understand, why can't you buy your own software for your forum?

Do you own a hosting company?

Please tell us what is going on my man.

CrashDummy

yes we are a hosting company but we have enough to pay for hosting but at the moment we are not making a profit.

Well the guys around here will help you, but you have to be honest about your intentions, they are all here to learn and run a business too.

Nothing wrong with looking for partners, but you need to give folks more information before they will be willing to help you.

What Information do you need? (other post was my personal site), this post is for our business.

First tell us a bit about what you need to get the business going and why you want to barter hosting for the money to get software.

This is strange. I cant see myself trusting a hosting company that cant afford to pay $160 for a VB license.

here's our hosting company:

OK, you seem like a very bright person, but you have to get real, how old are you and be sure to tell the truth.

Next we are happy to have you here as you must have some brains to be able to run a hosting site.

Next why is all your hosting free, are you just getting started and how are you supporting the sites (with ADSENSE)?

CrashDummy is a mod for us and he is helping us out but I am the owner and I wanted to provide free hosting with no ads at all. I can pay for the hosting out of my pocket but at this stage we cannot afford to buy the license when we do not make a profit so I figured that with some extra space I have I could barter with it.

All he said is true, and Im 18 years old.

So Hotrod, how do you expect to run a free hosting company with no ads to support the overhead?

Is this just because you are starting?

Listen, we are your friends here, so level with us so we can help each other.

Well we have a reseller for $20 not a a server for $300 a month and as it is we dont even use all of the space/bandwith on the reseller so we are able to keep costs low and we have been open for about 2 months now so we are already settled.

Here is what I would say that both of you guys should do at this point, stick around and learn more by reading threads here.

Then move on with some sort of plan as you learn.

We have threads here that you should read in the web hosting forums and you will see that some of the members have problems with even larger hosting companies that have their own servers.

Take your time and learn, because you will have plenty of opportunities to make money if you have the know how.

OK guys, now get to reading threads and quit the worries about the current project, you will get there in time when you have the money to get the software.

I'm not trying to pinch members from this Forum, far from it as this is an excellent Forum, but in this case you guys should have a look around at the Forum in my signature.

As Anthony said....read the threads and check out all you can...it will happen.

Asking for a license in trade for hosting shows a weakness. I'm a web host too, and here's my advise to you: if you don't have the money to go with it, don't go with it... stay with phpBB. It looks like you have a great community already with phpBB. Ask your current members (if they are hosted free) if they'd like to contribute as well... watch what happens.

dont do business with him, hes not trustworthy, he backstabs and he would sell up before you have got what he owes

If your host does not own the data center, your site is not safe IMO. If they don't pay their bill, you'll lose your web site. Know your host, their history and assests.

very true, an unstable hosting businesses can cause you many unforseen problems. Don't ever save on the wrong end ...
