I’m trying to locate a hack that will list the total number of visitors today. I have installed both the number of members who have visited and number of members who have posted. I have added in “currently on line” section spiders visiting. I have seen a couple of scripts that list the visitors, but they do this: guest, guest, guest, and guest - personally, I think that is a waste of space and it looks kind of silly. If a script will list the names then it must be able to provide a total number of visitors without the other stuff. Maybe I can change one of the existing scripts. I did ask the coder for “currently on line” hacks and they said no!
Help? Advice? Suggestions? Better yet, anyone have a script?

I don't think you can do any kind of accurate assessment. It would be a useless stat IMO.
Who did you ask for what and they said no? Give me an idea to work with here and maybe I can help.
Modifing the guest guest guest thing to be a number would be very easy IMO, however just like the list you think is useless, I think the whole stat is. One aol user can add 25 so called guest visitors to the count per visit.
What's with the obsession of everyone to show forum stats? I thought that would only be of interest to the staff and kept on an admin type page. Edumacate me here guys.

Sorry, but if you list all guests, as guest, guest, guest, then you have be able to keep tract of how many visitors came to your site, otherwise that wouldn't work.
I asked the coder and he said he would not create that without giving a reason, just that he wouldn't do it.
Obsession is purely to let others know how many people are coming to your site.

Yes, agreed, we can in fact do that very easily IMO. However, as I said, each AOL user can generate 10's of those per visit. The number is BS, but I'm sure it's looks cool. ;)
To display the list of guest guest guest there is probably a loop. We add a counter to the loop and display the count instead of the list. It's not rocket science.
