Getting Your site Reviewed by a Magazine

My main forum, Lincoln vs Cadillac Forums (http://www.lincolnvscadillac.com/), is about cars and for the enthusiast.

Last week, some of my recent efforts paid off. My site was featured in Muscle Mustangs & Fast Fords Magazine. (You can see the article here (http://www.lincolnvscadillac.com/joey/MMFF-Article.htm)) While it may seem to be an obscure magazine, any Ford, Lincoln or Mercury enthusiast would refer to this magazine as “the Bible”

Ok - so how did I do it? I would love to tell you all about how im a magician or have great media connections, but those would be lies.

In short, I asked. That’s it… Pretty simple huh?

All I needed to do was contact the editor of the magazine. This information is usually listed on one of the first few pages of any magazine. I called him and told him I had a great site his magazine may want to review. He instructed me to send an email to a particular columnist and gave me the writer’s email address.

I spent a few days composing what amounted to a sales letter. I was basically selling my site. I gave all the important information such as when my site started, the features we offered, and a little about our members. I then simply asked for the article. I was sure to include my phone number and email address.

A week later my phone rang. It was the columnist. He had a series of questions in addition to the information I had provided.

A few months later My site was featured in “the Bible".

Often, it is as simple as that.

Don’t be afraid to ask. The worst that can happen is that your told “No", so what do you have to lose? It costs you nothing but a little time. Being bold can sometimes reap big rewards.

That's way to easy! I read MM&FF as I have an '04 Mach 1. I have always liked that MM&FF will do website reviews. My main interest is in offroading and none of the offroad magazines I read ever review websites. It seems that in the offroad world the print mags are afraid of the Internet. No proof, just a feeling that I get when I've talked to some of the offroad press in person.
