Website and Forum owners seem to spend alot of time worrying about what they can be doing to raise their Google PageRank.
It is generally believed that Google's PageRank, which is largely based upon how many backlinks and what quality backlinks a forum has, is an primary factor in how well a particular website or forum ranks within the Google serps.
So I got to thinking... How important is PageRank?
Many SEO Professionals will tell you from experience that there are many other factors besides PageRank, such as keyword density and placement, take on a larger importance in how Google's algorithm composes the search engine rankings.
I will not go so far as to state that PageRank has become completely irrelevant, but I believe it takes on only a minor role in the algorithm these days. Or, in the alternative, pagerank is something of a parallel - in that a good site will have good rankings -- and will also have a good pagerank.
I have found that other factors, such as having keywords in the website title and URL, strong keyword rich content and fresh content can help a forum rank much more competitively in the SERPS.
The one single area that a higher pagerank helps for a fact is in link developlent and sale. Virtually nobody would refuse a link exchange with a Pagerank 6 or 7 forum - and that forum could also sell links easily and make a few dollars for the owner.
What im saying is that PageRank is important, but it certainly is not the end all be all of Search Engine Optimization. Many other factors are more important such as link building, good site design and strong content.
Simply building a good website is the best thing you can do to attract members. If you build a good site, with strong content and build links back to your site, PageRank will follow naturally.
