One way my partner and I keep our forum active , especially in the beginning , is to post . We each make sure to post at least 3 new things every day . We try to find informative , inspirational , or just plain fun things to post . As each new member joins , we encourage them to post as well . Send them a pm welcoming them (much like you do here) and try and personalize the experience for them . It has also helped to set the tone , for a more close-knit community .

Yes -unless your forum is very lareg, you should be the top posts. Try to answer every post you can, especially in the beginning.

also ask some questions that will get new members to interact which will then draw guests into signing up and responding. It's a snowball effect.

Think about what you are posting, when creating new threads or responding to other posts though. Dont just post to be posting. Take the time to think it out a little.

I have checked out new forums in the past where the admin would respond to anything and everthing with "yeah, thats cool", or something else that is just as generic. If you are doing that, you are simply being annoying.

True, I forgot to mention that. Try to always leave a post in a position where someone wants to respond. It encourages people to keep posting.

Also, Its common for most admins to ahve a few usernames so they can post back n forth, giving the apperance of more activity. This kind of thing is important as people prefer a busier board. Dont you?

You could always post a photo of Shakira, that always gets folks going...

PS: TOOT could always bring mikmik on forum with him if he really wants to get it going....

One of my Moderators started a post/thread where people had to reply with a song title/artist name that continues from the previous post.

ie;

First Post: Dreamer - Supertramp
Next Post: Don't Fall In Love With A Dreamer - Kenny Rogers & Kim Carnes
Next Post: Footloose - Kenny Loggins
Next Post: Your Mama Don't Dance - Loggins & Messina

And so on...

Well that topic got pinned and while it was pinned people would always add to it. When I unpinned it, there was 1,513 views and 205 replies.

I started a similar yet different game as well, and that one garnered 1,320 and 173 posts.

Only reason I unpinned it was that the Portal will always pull pinned posts first, and I did not want visitors to think all we did was play games.
