rodarbaL 04-03-2005, 06:04 PM Only asking an opinion here from other members.
How do you find the reputation system, have any of you had problems with it..Ie: members abusing it, using it for the wrong thing, complaints from members, etc. How do you handle it?
Do you think it a great feature, or just simply a pain to deal with constantly?
My experiences as a Mod. found it to be more annoying than help.
Do you post clear instructions on its use and abuse or do you just let it all take its course?
Joeychgo 04-03-2005, 06:43 PM I dont use it, I dont like it, I think it only ****es people off when they get bad rep for stupid stuff.
bassnutz 04-04-2005, 03:04 PM I give my members the choice of using it or not. Most use it, but some do not. Choices are a good thing. :)

I agree.
I am in the middle of a test/trial period to see what the reaction is. I have had several people complain already re the rep system when it takes points off them. I find myself having to explain the way it works many times and I am already fed up with having to do that.
My guess is that I will be turning it off soon...

Just disable the ability to leave negative points. Why make ALL the other members that enjoy the rep system suffer?
rodarbaL 04-04-2005, 05:02 PM Not being totally Admin function literate myself, I can not say this with certainty, but as far as I know you cant turn off the negative.
It's all one package.
We are trialing it ourselves too, but as soon as it becomes a problem it's gone.
After Moderating for a year, I found the rep system to be the number one cause of disputes, bad feelings, and loss of membership.
MindBuster 04-04-2005, 06:32 PM I use it and the members like it, adds a bit of roleplay and interactivity to the forums, that is good for my forum which is about a mmorpg.
/Edit
One of my members made a poll about it, with 39 votes only 4 didnt like it.
If you want to read their comments (29 replies) the thread is here....

You can set the user reputation permissions. Admincp> usergroups> usergroup manager. Click on the usergroup you want to edit, scroll down to "User Reputation Permissions" and click the "No" box on "Can Leave Negative Reputation". From there on out, all they can leave are positive reps. ;)
AnthonyCea 04-12-2005, 03:31 PM It is a automatic way to censor folks from making honest and frank posts because they fear members will gang up on them.
I think it has caused many old time members at Digital Point to use it against each other and to form gangs and gang up on new members that they don't like by sending PM's to their buddy list.
I could do the same thing to them, but then you have bitch wars between members and I think it ruins the spirit of the forum when things like that take place.
You get folks that build up reputation for themselves then use it to get back on folks when they can't win a debate and that also is against the spirit of creating good content for a forum.
rodarbaL 04-13-2005, 04:21 AM That all depends on the morality of the member with the most points involved, at the present time I have a very high reputation power on a forum, my points can reduce someone by 130.
I have been hounded by a moderator on this forum to a new forum I have moved to. I have left the forum I was on, the one where I have rep. power, I resigned as a moderator on there. So it is of no consequence for me to hop back on there, which I could do at any time, give anyone on there that gave me a hard time a bad rep, then hop out again.
Having a high sense or morale, and pride, I would not bring myself to such low bitchiness. But then, maybe that is the reason I left the forum, because of the bitchiness, giving of bad reps. by immature members. Oh btw I never in my whole time as a member or moderator of that forum received a bad rep...now that's a record, surely.
There is only one time I ever gave a bad rep. too, and that was to a person who was immensly rude, beyond the bounds, who was banned, and their posts deleted.
