Joeychgo 06-02-2005, 01:38 AM Rate your Web Host
We are trying to put together a directory of web hosts and list comments regarding the host.
Got a good host?
Been with a not so good host?
List them and your experience here: VBW Web Host Ratings (http://www.vbwebmaster.com/links/browselinks.php?c=2)
Please send others you might know here as well - I want to really put together a good list of recommendations here.
ConsiderThis 06-02-2005, 12:37 PM Okay, but I'm confused.
Are the letters that run along the top because we are supposed to post in the right letter...???
When I went to the letter for mine, I got the page to enter the directory...
Plus, I can't find the button to use to add a web hosting review... but that could be me because things take me soooo long.
ConsiderThis 06-02-2005, 12:40 PM Oh dear, you guys are going to hate me...
Directory of web hosting links.... not the general directory...
but wait... it asked for the web site ...
.... of the web hosting company????
You guys... for sure, if you get lines on your fingernails, you do not want to ignore them.... Just imagine if your mind suddenly began segmenting things up like this, imagine if you had an old, old hard drive from 15 years ago...
Okay, enough dwelling...
AnthonyCea 06-11-2005, 06:53 AM Joey, I liked the old page much better, the new one has fonts that are way to large, so I think you need to find some middle ground here on the design of the page.
subnet_rx 06-15-2005, 09:22 AM I've been with http://www.Site5.com for 3 years now, and they are great. They aren't simply a reseller or small web hosting company anymore, they are starting to innovate the industry with new custom software for their customers.
Joeychgo 06-15-2005, 10:13 AM read the first post- and post your review as instructed please. Nobody will read it here.
AnthonyCea 06-16-2005, 06:22 AM But what about the large fonts
Joeychgo 06-16-2005, 11:45 PM huh?????
AnthonyCea 06-17-2005, 12:28 AM See post # 4 again!
The problem with the new layout is that the font sizes are too large, the old page was fine as you could view more listings on one screen, some of the larger listings take up nearly the entire screen on an 800 x 600 screen.
Can you find some middle ground between the old font size and the new?
Joeychgo 06-17-2005, 12:32 AM No.
j/k Of course - I'll look into it right now. I see things on 1280 resolution and sometimes what looks good to me doesnt look good otherwise.
AnthonyCea 06-17-2005, 12:37 AM A lot of folks are moving to large screens Joey, but unless your pages adjust for different size screens you have to design for 800 x 600 because I think the majority of users are still on those little screens.
Joeychgo 06-17-2005, 12:44 AM I know - I forget sometimes - take a look now.
AnthonyCea 06-17-2005, 02:21 AM Looks great now, a hell of a lot more professional.
Thanks, I am sure it will help.
I'm just moving to PowerVPS. I'll let y'all know what it's like in a few weeks.
AnthonyCea 06-19-2005, 02:35 PM I'm just moving to PowerVPS. I'll let y'all know what it's like in a few weeks.
I don't see them listed in the directory, are you going to submit them WiBu?
Yup, that's what I'm intending to do.
Just a quick update on PowerVPS. All I can say is wow. Great service. I was having problems optimizing mysql so I shot a support request off; answered and fixed within 20 minutes.
The performance is also pretty good. It's nice not having other sites effect yours, I had around 100 concurrent users on early (20 or so bots) and it was peaking at server load of 1 and floating around at 0.7.
Edit: Just thought I had to add that I'm on the CPANEL POWER-2 plan.
Big Kahuna 06-29-2005, 08:48 PM After trying too many hosting companies that oversold their server -- I got my own server and sell a little extra space. I have so undersold it that I have to give the microprocessor caffine so it won't fall asleep.

AnthonyCea 06-29-2005, 08:57 PM What are the spec's on your server, is it in a data center or your home?
mikelbeck 06-30-2005, 07:26 AM I was with iPowerWeb a year or so ago (awful), moved to PIWebHosting this past December (very good until recently), and just a week or two ago moved to PowerVPS (excellent so far). I'll post reviews of all of them... sometime soon.
Joeychgo 06-30-2005, 08:07 AM Guys - Please make these recommendations in the Rate Your Web Host (http://www.vbulletin-faq.com/reviews/browselinks.php?c=5) section - recommendations here will be lost in the shuffle.
AnthonyCea 06-30-2005, 08:13 AM Well the project is moving ahead Joey, the web hosting directory is going to be good if we are all strong enough to give honest reviews.
Let's hope that folks are honest and don't just use it for PR hype for their favorite hosting companies and friends.
The directory reviews should be for performance ratings in most cases, members should remember that.
Noppid 06-30-2005, 05:30 PM Hey Big Kahuna, that linking is causing us to have to deal with a security certificate. Some folks might not get it. Could you perhaps change that to a screen shot or text?
Thanks.
Big Kahuna 06-30-2005, 06:13 PM I've posted screen shots below -- but my very limited time to edit the original post has expired. You'll need to delete that post and this one.
Sorry

As you can see it is very far from taxed because I'm very selective on who I'll host. This we have some kick ass speed. It is monitored by someone in England, Toronto, and San Diego. It is updated nightly and is pretty tight with security. I don't make any money at it -- but it is less hassle than it was with the servers that had 700 boards on it and a couple hackers spamming the world and letting loose with crazt CGIs
All sites have a nightly, weekly, and monthly backup for emergency restores.
Noppid 06-30-2005, 07:07 PM Sorry about that timeout, I'll mention that to Joe.
Thanks for the info and taking the time.
AnthonyCea 06-30-2005, 07:20 PM Joey actually extended the editing time Noppid, I complained that it was too short and he made it longer.
We don't want folks to come back when proven wrong and remove posts, thus ruining threads and taking them out of context  :p
Big Kahuna 06-30-2005, 07:58 PM True -- but you always have the edited comment. We give 24 hours on my bigger forum.
AnthonyCea 06-30-2005, 08:01 PM I think we are more worried about members that lose a point in a debate and remove their post to avoid keeping it in the record, I have seen that happen many times taking the thread out of context and ruining the conversation (thread).
I hate it because when some of these guys removed their posts, it made me look like I double posted and I had to go back to the thread and explain to the members that some idiot removed his post when proven wrong and had to tell everyone that I did not double post.
So we do not want a fool to make a fool out of the members here.
PS: Start a thread on it here and we will discuss it BK :o
capalo 09-07-2006, 03:34 PM Me, too, I'm moving over to PowerVPS (but not until my current %$@#^*$ provider gets us back online.) JaguarPC used to be very reliable, but since I moved to a VPS it's been an absolute nightmare and cost me thousands of dollars in sales, plus my credibility is shot, I have made excuses for weeks now. I have a very active message board, and had just migrated from a third party host (EZBoard) before we moved. What a NIGHTMARE. I don't happen to speak geek, yet Jaguar continues to respond to my trouble calls as if I can make any sense of why they're down yet again. It wasn't this bad when I was on another one of their shared server, but they refuse to move me off this one that's only been hanging on by a thread. What I have been able to interpret is that in the past couple of weeks there have been a number of hardware/node failures and CONTINUED load issues on my VPS. My reputation as a host for one of the "world's leading addiction support sites" is going down the tubes fast. I don't know what happened to this once reliable provider, but my down time in the past month would shock you. (In addition, they moved ALL my domains to the VPS, not just my business one I requested, so I'm locked out of mail, my nonprofit site, my other domains are all down the toilet.
I'm at a turning point in my business and this move to Jaguar's VPS has been the most horrible experience I could ever have imagined. My customers and subscribers are furious. All I can do is warn you all to avoid JaguarPC like the plague.
A fella whose IT opinion I respect very much recommended PowerVPS and I signed up this morning. So here we go, another migration. Problem is, Jag site is still down (has been for nearly 12 hours!) so I can't transfer anything.
BTW, I'm looking to hire someone to do some simple vBulletin customization as I'm afraid I may do more damage than good. I need the PayPal donation app, welcome headers and who's online mods. Also need FlashChat installed, but I think we may have gotten hacked in the past few days (FLASHCHAT USERS, WATCH OUT, IT'S BAD!)
Sorry to go on so long. Thanks for the useful info here and for letting me vent.

That link seems to direct just to the home page.
Elsie 09-08-2006, 02:20 AM yup...... i'm guessing it's because the "old" site no longer exsists.

we changed to siteground(www.sitegroud.com)
40 Gb Spaces/ 900 Gb Traffic..its good untill now
amansingh1985 02-19-2007, 05:59 AM Dont know whether its has been rated before, but from my experience, GoDaddy.com is the best. They have a great technical support. Just mail them and they will reply in a one or two hours. So if you're having some problem on server side and need to resolve that ina small time GoDaddy.com is the best. Just my opinion, if someone had some bad experiences please let me know so I can too get aware of that!
Calinga 04-27-2007, 06:21 AM I've had a very good experience with http://www.sitebuilder.com. The downside is no telco support, upside is they answer my email faster than I usually get to it.
The email I did sent them, ended up being a setting in vB that I did wrong - which they caught and told me how to correct it.

You may want to edit the link in your first post because it only re-directs to the main page of vbulletin-faq.com.
Added:
- Canaca.com (copied directly from their page source so the spelling errors are theirs, not mine). They were added because I'd hate to see others experience what many people already have, poor service, poor performance and lousy support. I've also added a link so people can see what others are saying about Canaca (for objectivity).
Will add more later.
BTW, good idea folks.
