Many of our members are starting chats on AIM almost every night. Was wondering what would be a good chat for my site? Perhaps tied into VB, or not.. Though I think it would be nice to have a chat setup where you can see who is chatting without actualy enetering the chat room....

I grabbed ZeroTolerance's vBchat from vbulletin.org last night, It was a quick easy install and i'm gonna test it out and see how it works with a load of people in it tonight
You may also want to look into SigmaChat i've seena couple sites use that too.

I use FlashChat and I love it.

They also support vb integration, it runs smooth and my members all love it.

I came across a discussion about Flash Chat recently where at least one webmaster thought it was server-intensive. The web hosting company pulled it.
That might have been a one-off, I'm not sure. I have no idea how many concurrent users there were so I guess it all depends on how busy your forum/chat is.
How do you find it impacts the server?

Dunno - no host has ever complained abou it to me - and we have weekly chat nights where 20+ people can be in it chatting.

Thanks J. I'm running a poll on our forum to see what type of connection is most widespread. Here in the UK, Broadband is spreading but many people are still on dial-up. Flash Chat could be a bit slow to load, don't you think?
The demo takes about 13 seconds to load and launch on my 2mb connection. Then again, if your members love it . . .
Fight Rice, how did your trial of Vbchat turn out in the end?
