Latest Blog in Your Postbit

Ok folks, we have added a new feature to the site. This feature will allow you to put in the URL to your blog or forum's newsfeed and display the most recent post in your post bit.

Go to the User CP and under "edit profile", the last field is "Add your last blog post to your posts. Enter the URL to your Blog or Forum RSS Feed." Enter the URL to your RSS feed there.

After doing so, your latest post or blog entry will display in your posts here on VBW. Another FREE link back to you for promotion!

This is new and I guess ya could say beta. With your help, we can refine it if necessary though.

We hope you utilize this feature, another great benefit of membership at VBW!

Wow nice addition. Is this a downloadable hack?
EDIT: I dont think it likes WP style rss files which have an .php extention :(

What kind of site? vB?

That would be something like...

Was there a problem last night with this feature? After I set up the feed it didn't display. I thought there might be a lag time but then I noticed that no other member's feed was being displayed either.

I think it just took a while for the browsers to adjust to the changes.
They are all working fine for all members now. (That i have seen)

It was a bug I created. I had made the URL field private. It needed to be public.

I was up last night, er, this morning when you guys reported it and fixed it. I didn't post it was fixed, I went to bed.

It's supposed to be an hourly update. I have no clue if it works yet. You guys are my testers.

It should in about an hour.

I have to see what I can do about the cached "nothing" when there is an error. I have always dealt with it globally during install and never had to worry again. Now I have to account for user's trial and error.

Thanks for the heads up. If ya notice anything else, holler. :)

noppid

OK, I'm gonna use a feed check in the user cp profile save to kick out an error if the feed comes up empty or throws an error.

I wanted to consolidate this to one file edit, but there's no good way to notify the member of a feed error and fix it without code in the profile.php too.

No big deal, we can do this in a few lines of code.

Ignore the errors you see in my postbit, I'm forcing them.

No, I just had some problems with some smart asses and some major idiots (Compar).

When the administrator started giving me bad reputation when I struck back at them that was it for me and I quit that other place thankfully. Got tired of the self serving bastards and kids on that board who all think they are fourm superstars :p :p

You know yfs1 = your favorite smart ass

I got distrated from this to do the port of vBGarage to vBulletin 3.5.

I'll get more done this weekend I imagine. It's still raining. I got out for a while today and went to lunch as well. So for the time I have invested, I got alot done.

But two all nighters will do that. :p

I'll try and play with this code too. Man, I got mounds of code to redo for vBulltin 3.5 too!

I checked the code, it's fine. I still need to do the sanity checks on the URL submit in the ACP though.

But if you look at the RSS feeds in question, despite there being newer posts on the forum, the displayed entires here are the same as first item in the raw RSS.

So it's a vBulletin external.php issue as far as I can tell.

That is XML, we use RSS. I will however explore the option.

Does that site have an RSS export as well? It's very common to have both available.

How to get RSS on a Blogger Blog (http://help.blogger.com/bin/answer.py?answer=290&topic=36).

AnthonyCea

One has to convert their site to a pro package to change this feed.

It would be better if you supported XML as others do my man.

PS: Does anyone have an idea how to convert to a "Blogger Pro Package"?

Why don't I just drive up and set the whole damn thing up for you on a real blog of your own?

Then you can quit complaining! :D

AnthonyCea

Well until you have an idea on how to convert this free package into a "pro package" or someone else does, the only way folks are going to be able to use the feed feature here is for you to enable XML in your program :o

I just wanted to add that this was a great idea. :)

Since we or well most anyway should all have vB communities this is a great way for us all to show off little feeds from our own sites.

Wish I could say the idea was original, but it's not. It's just basicly a version of the service Shawn provides at DigitalPoint.
