Free Coop Ad Network

What exactly is this network? I have registered and signed up but i dont see anything regarding what i need to do next etc .. ?

Are you talking about the Digital Point Coop Ad Network? If so, there are instructions on this page (http://www.digitalpoint.com/tools/ad-network/setup.php?type=99).

On the Edit Settings page you can change the Site/Forum URL. You must have ads on all pages in the Site/Forum URL and all sub directories of it.

I dont know if its better, just different. The coop has something like 10,000 sites involved - many more then link vault I think.

The topic created by the guy who has the infamous SEO vBulletin thread, lists out a couple of reasons as to why LV is a better option to use than Coop Ad. Only downside is that the site takes longer to place links on your forums. Probally because of the lack of partipating members?

LV's poorly thought out promotional tactics have kept me away from them. I don't see them growing the same way the coop network has, or evolving as rapidly. I think their membership will remain limited for some time to come.

He has some good thoughts, but I dont agree with them all. I think he places too much empasis on pagerank for example. In regard to his rel=nofollow hack - he says "The concept is a real powerful one for getting you higher on Google." -- Maybe someone can prove this to me. His thought is that you bleed PR into these pages he suggests you implement rel=nofollow on, and that PR is higly considered when ranking pages. I believe thats just not so. There are over 100 factors considered in ranking pages, PR is but one, and IMO a minor one.


I personally have decided not to use link vault at this time. That doesnt mean its terrible. It just means I dont think I can improve on the coop right now by switching to link vault.

Its important to note - the idea of this site isnt for me to tell you the "way" to do things - I have my opinions, which may be correct or incorrect. I want VBW members to be exposed to various ideas, opinions and debate them, and then make up their own mind. I tell you what has worked for me and what I have seen work in my experience. Doesnt mean I have the end all be all of opinions.

Thanks for the help. I guess that at the moment since i am just so new to SEO, and especially doing it on a forum. That it may come across as though i am just wanting you to tell me what to do with every aspect but that isnt so. I mean i have looked through most of the suggestions you have made for Title Description changes etc .. and some although good dont really fit into the theme of the board etc ... but then again some do. Trying to get the best of both worlds.

I read through that topic, and thought of replying but all those long winded and perfectly formatted posts from like every reply just put me off. :)

Oh - I didnt mean what I said the way you took it - I meant it as to say I want everyone to learn from many people and sources, not jsut take my word for it.

SEO is partly about being creative. Every forum topic wont work with some of the things I discuss, and will need to be customized. Be creative and unique, and it will help youer SEO and help your site as a whole.

Post a message at http://forums.digitalpoint.com in the Co-op Ad Network forum. You will usually get a response as to why you are failing validation quickly. I don't see any ads showing up at locoforum.com so it's not surprising that that site would not validate.

I dont see the ads running on your site -- which is why they arent validating. You must not have installed them correctly.

I'm getting worried about using either the Coop or LinkVault. There are new things brewing at Google (http://www.mattcutts.com/blog/bigdaddy/) and Yahoo is also behaving oddly with some sites. I don't know if any of these trends are going to affect networks like LinkVault or the Coop or not but I'm sufficiently nervous about the possibility that I've removed Coop ads from my sites.

I think that I will continue to use both, they have only done good things for my sites. However I think that a lot of people think the the Coop is the be all end all in SEO, and that if you have a lot of weight pointing to your site you are #1 for sure. Same with LV. However I have found that LV is a great way to get a new site indexed deep and that the Coop is a great way to get hits from the 10000 sites in the network, you just have you use a creative Alt Text :)

Is it possible google see's this as some type of link farm operation. Has anyone experienced their site rankings effected by being a part of a coop network.
