Images in Signatures?Michael 06-13-2005, 08:11 AM Why are images disabled in signatures? noppid 06-13-2005, 09:46 AM Cause they make the connection slow for dial up users. Folks often use a large graphic. They often hot link to it too. Then if they leave or move on and the graphic is removed, they cause people to wait for pages to load. Besides, there is not much benefit to a graphic. The links have better benefits. theMusicMan 06-13-2005, 09:47 AM I would think because they detract from what's important - i.e. the actual content of the message or thread posted. Personally, I find if you are going to allow images in sigs, without strict control and policy these can soon easily get out of control and you end up with pages and pages of images that one has to trawl through to decipher the original message that has been posted. Michael 06-13-2005, 01:07 PM I guess. Just that seems like one of the only sites that i am aware of which prohibits the use of the IMG tag. (Waits for the hords or webmasters to come now and prove me wrong) nevetS 06-13-2005, 01:43 PM I think that most SEO boards that I've seen disallow images. Some boards allow them, but moderate their usage (i.e. not too big, etc.). The boards that allow big images provide a disservice to their community IMO. One vikings board I visit is filled to the brim with giant images. I adblock them out pretty regularly just so I can read what is going on. Exactly. bassnutz 06-14-2005, 04:02 AM If your heart is dead set on having images in signatures, there is a way to control it better. "Show an user's signature only once per page" (http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showthread.php?t=123266) It's not the greatest thing to allow images in sigs, but this is an option that will help with loading for members with multiple posts per page. Joeychgo 06-14-2005, 04:15 AM Its dissappoingint that vBulletin 3.50 does not include any management for signature pics. I cant imagine it would be so hard to code in. Require people to upload their sig image and restrict its size, just like profile pics. MXjunk127 07-05-2005, 06:56 PM http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=63841&highlight=sig yeah, something like that would be cool.... But noooooo.... hope it is ported, I may have to do a little work. AnthonyCea 07-05-2005, 07:19 PM Images for signatures suck, I hate them on every forum that has them, I tend not to like to read threads with a sign flashing in my face and it is hard to dwell on a forum that has them.  I will hang around for a bit, but move on quickly because I hate them and the slow page loading time since I am on dial up   bassnutz 07-05-2005, 08:15 PM .........since I am on dial up   G.E.T. C.A.B.L.E. Then there wont be so many of these  I know what you mean though about forums that have tons of graphic sigs. They're a pain in the... http://www.rocknrolldonks.com/images/HoopsLeft1ca.jpg AnthonyCea 07-05-2005, 08:24 PM Yeah but we got a guy here, "Big Kahuna" that has one that is great, I don't mind his at all :D  noppid 07-05-2005, 10:58 PM Images is signatures are not for me. So I worte a photo gallery for my members. I can't wait to load vBulletin on my forums. :) In fact, I don't even think I'll release it anymore. I'm just to tired to care. Joeychgo 07-06-2005, 12:49 AM noppid needs a vacation - or maybe an 18 yr old blonde..... minstrel 07-06-2005, 01:16 AM G.E.T. C.A.B.L.E. Pet peeve alert! Contrary to poular belief, that is not always an option. I moved from the city to a rural area about 4 years ago, primarily for my kids and partly because the vandalism, crime, and other crap was getting on my nerves. Downside: out here there is no cable or DSL. Other options? Wireless: up here the start up costs run $1500 - $2000. I can't justify that amount of money for an internet connection. Satellite: quite a bit less expensive but first I need to upgrade my machine and add an extra port. Bottom Line? If it were available out here, I'd have it in a flash. Not a current option for me. MXjunk127 07-06-2005, 01:26 AM Pfff all of you get I2 ;) minstrel 07-06-2005, 01:29 AM I2 I2? Is that good? MXjunk127 07-06-2005, 01:44 AM I2? Is that good? The new internet....Only schools, hospitals, millitary, exc. have access to it at the moment... My freind who happens to work in a hospital says its absolutely incredible.... I think he said 100MB/s 56kb/s vs. 100MB/s hahahaha I am on DSL and it is SLOW...I would die if I had dialup... noppid 07-06-2005, 02:09 AM Do you have to wear a helmet to go 100mbs? MXjunk127 07-06-2005, 02:12 AM yes, and a seatbelt...and a blindfold for the kids. noppid 07-06-2005, 02:14 AM yes, and a seatbelt...and a blindfold for the kids. Blind fold the kids? What a great Idea! I'm trying that first thing in the morning. Oh wait, it is morning. I have to gag um too so I can sleep. :D caffeine_kitty 03-09-2006, 01:02 AM well, theres a place for pics in every forum. it indeed slows down the connections for some users. | |
