As for the Hosting Section - actually it was Joey who came by our place to see what was going on and I talked to him briefly on Live Help I think. One of our members were around here who posted up a short review so I followed them over to add a little extra :)

It's nice to see an active forum - so many forums I've been to are not active, or the ones that are consist of flames. Nice to see a civilized discussion every now and then!

Conor - let me give you a little SEO advice.

Dont just put your URL in a signature. Use anchor text. THis helps the searh engines determine what keyword your site is appropriate for.

Your links should look more like this: Hands-on Web Hosting (http://www.handsonwebhosting.com) or Web Hosting (http://www.handsonwebhosting.com), etc - not like http://www.handsonwebhosting.com (http://www.handsonwebhosting.com/) -- you get the idea.

Yep, been through all the SEO stuff, however there's a method to my madness believe it or not ;)

One of the reasons that we are not ranked high in search engines is that we are strictly a word of mouth company. If you are not hosting with us, have seen a post or know someone who is hosting with us then you've never seen us. The reason for this is actually to keep the busienss small and grow at a steady pace rather than expand so fast that support goes down the drain.

It's a much different strategy than most businesses have and if I had presented this to my economics professor when I was in college he would have failed me without a second thought.

We've been in the web design business since 1992 (before MOST people knew there was an internet) however we're no longer doing much for design as there are so many other more tallented individuals out there with a WYSIWYG program making beautiful sites. Web Hosting started in 1994 for us and we're at a steady 3 client per day growth. ALL referrals.

This way, if we do a good job, people recommend us, if we do a bad job, we go out of business. It keeps us honest.

We are aware that you know what anchor text is and how it works if you can run a web hosting company Conor, Joey is just trying to be helpful man. :o

No no, don't take it as a slam in any way! Merely the method to my madness. The ALT tags are very useful, so are NOTES in the html code since search engines read the notes even if it doesn't display to the users.

So much has changed in the years with php and asp on the scene, the basics of HTML still remain the same and while the keywords and description meta tags are no longer playing the heavy role in search engine ranking these days, they're still important.

Google for example looks at the LINK TO your site and ranks that. The higher a page rank that is linking to you, the more weight they give your site.

ALT tags, META Tags, and even hidden tags <--- text here ---> are very helpful in search rankings, if not NECESSARY for engines. While google doesn't pay much mind to META any more, the others still do (MSN, AOL, Yahoo etc).

HOW is the only US based host I've used and we're currently looking at moving more sites up to them based on the very positive experience.

I had some experimental code running for a while which got the webmasters a bit grumpy (they didn't like me crashing their servers ;)) but apart from that it's been great.
