Put a Chatroom on IRC

On a big server, thousands of people will see your chatroom who otherwise wouldn't find your site. It's also a great way for members to talk to other members. I use the free PJIR java applet to provide easy access from the web. There's various hacks available for this at vBorg too, but I preferred to use a simple interface that wouldn't use much resources or involve the database server. You can add something like this HFChat (http://www.hockeysfuture.com/pjirc/chat.php) very easily using the free resources at PJIRC (http://www.pjirc.com/main.php). We're planning on having regular chats with "celebrities" to help promote our site.

I like the IRC too. No admin work, or alot less anyway for us.

I also like the idea of members by attrition by being on a large open server. However, for those of you new to this idea, choose your IRC server wisely.

I would stick to EFnet or the Undernet...

ive been looking at various chat softwares and i have no clue about IRC in general so that FlashChat looks very promising for me!!!

I use pjirc integration on my forum, its really cool and free..

my co-admin is a irc op and set up a chatroom for our site. But we also have a shoutbox and the members prefer to use that rather than a chatroom, so it's just sitting there, never used except by me and the co-admin :rolleyes:

Same here, We have an IRC chan on site but members are more familiar with Shoutbox,
even pjirc integration didnt helped, its more for Geeks :p

I've seen too many people confused by IRC chatrooms to install one. On the new board however, I will have a/v chatting.

I would like a chat in mine how can i get this and how much any free ones around worth trying to get more members?

mirc is full of trojans and worms. i dont like to use mirc anymore. :(
