Purchase existing forum and changing name?

What do you guys think of purchasing existing vB forums that are set up, have indexed pages and members then changing the name and forum design?

Is this a good idea, does it have any value or would it be better to just start from scratch :confused:

Well - I didnt change the name, but I recently bought a forum and changed the design entirely. It was PHPbb and I went to vBulletin, changing all the graphics, etc.

Members complained for a few days - then all was good. More old members are coming back all the time and registrations are up. Naturally, there is alot more SE traffic.

I think so long as you continue to maintain the topic then other changes are tolerable. How big a name change are you considering?

Complete topic and name changes, just high jacking members with similar interests such as computer users forum then adding webmaster related topics and programming.

The above is just an example given since there are so many forums for sale now for peanuts :o
