How do you set up a "news" section like you have on FABO? The "automotive news" section is what I'm talking about. Is that a hack or something you wrote?
noppid 07-12-2005, 07:36 PM I wrote it but it's not published.
mikelbeck 07-12-2005, 07:42 PM I wrote it but it's not published.
Can you share it? Or do you know of one that does something similar?
noppid 07-12-2005, 08:06 PM It's not automated at all and I really don't have a how to or the time to support how to use it. Joe hired me to set that site up to spec.
minstrel 07-12-2005, 08:50 PM FABO?
Isn't he that male model?

No, not a pun. That other thing.
Yeah, that's it... a palindrome.

mikelbeck 07-13-2005, 01:31 PM I guess I've got to build my own, then...
Here's a start... Needs some more work, hopefully I'll have it done later tonight:

noppid 07-13-2005, 01:44 PM Looks real good, nice work.

This is just the beginning! ;-)
Now that I've figured out the stupid "bits" things with vB's templates, I can move forward and make it work the way I want it to.
noppid 07-13-2005, 02:53 PM bit's are cool. :)

Hehe, hehe, you said "bits".

I've still got one or two things I want to clean up, but the major work is done.

http://www.discusscareers.com/news.phpWhat you've done there would be a useful hack if it were automated. I'm going to work on creating that as a vBadvanced template and php file. If you want something like that, ask for it on vBulletin.org (http://www.vbulletin.org) in their requests section.

It is automated... A cron job runs once every 4 hours, retrieves & parses the news and dumps it into the database.
mikelbeck 07-20-2005, 11:39 AM I'm just about done with it. I've got one more thing I want to do, but otherwise it's finished.
From the main page, a count of the articles since your last visit is displayed, like new threads, along with a link to those new articles.
From the new page, all of the feeds are broken down by channel, each channel is then linked to it's own page with the newest articles listed first.
Each article is a link that opens in it's own window. I was going to track the number of times a user clicks on a particlular article... but why?
The only thing I still need to do is add pagination for those feeds that have many articles.
Anyway, check it out, let me know what you think.
