This has happened twice....I get everything installed and setup in the admin cp, leave the site up for a couple days--im running the forums off my home comp--restart my whole system, try and reload the site, and I get a message saying that some error with the database has occured...could not connect or something...idk cant remember. It's really annoying...so if anyone has any suggestions plz post.

posting the exact error message and the backend software used would be beneficial to getting a correct answer.

mysqld was running-i kno i turned it on-unfortunately :( somethings wrong w/my comp so that when i press ctrl alt delete nothing happens-so I can't see for sure if it's running, but I'm pretty sure it is.

yes I'm running php and apache on the same machine...lol

error message---"There seems to have been a slight problem with the database.
Please try again by pressing the refresh button in your browser."

Create and use a test query to try and get a "real" error message. That error should have triggered an email with more info, but if there is no mail server, you won't get it.

ok, lol--I have an smtp server on my comp, so whatever it is should work--but what's a test query and how do I run it??

Try this test file I made real quick and see if it bitches.

Upload it to the forum folder and run it. Post any output. A white screen means it ran and you have other issues to deal with. Home sever installs are hard to troubleshoot as they are very subjective.

Good luck.

I figured that would happen. After I posted it, I noticed it caled a vB function that would do that.

I'm done today, just checking in. I'll try and post something simpler tomorrow.
