Major problem, can't post!

The webhost decided to muck about with hardware last night and 25 hours later we're still picking up the pieces...

The database got corrupted and atleast one user got deleted (just the most prolific poster, and a staff member! ). We've got the forum back up but we can't post unless we use quick reply. This implies it's a file problem and not a database problem. I've replaced all the files and then gone in and deleted them and reuploaded. Maybe I've missed some but I've done all the biggies, skipped the images.

I've also done lots of indexing work etc but I haven't totally rebuilt the indexes.

Can anyone please take a look at www.propertytalk.com/forum and work out what I need to do to debug this.

thanks

Sarah

Member.php is broke. Online.php is broke. White pages. Can't do much with that as far as trouble shooting though.

Java for the editor is broke.

My guess is an issue in the template system based on that. Are you 100% certain all the files are uploaded?

Newthread and newreply are broke too. Again, I think the template system is broken.

These are just guesses, But I would be agressively pursuing that avenue if it were my baby.

OK, I got this when I clicked "new message" in user CP under private messages.

Warning: Unexpected character in input: ' in /var/users/i3138072/propertytalk.com/htdocs/forum/private.php(1566) : eval()'d code on line 28

That is telling me it got garbage from the template when trying to fetch it.

That should be evaling USERCP_SHELL.

IMO you need a backup from before your host screwed ya. :(

This might be a good time to tell folks, backup your database often!!!!

I suggest you demand your host provide SSH access and you learn how to do backups from the command line. It's stupid easy!

PHPMYADMIN or any web interface cannot and should not be relied on for a backup proceedure.

Thanks guys

reinstalled from an older backup (since backup #1 was broken too) and all is now well. NZ webhosts don't like giving ssh so it's off to a manager server to get that control.

Good luck SarahK, moving to a more reasonable host is a good idea.

I have SSH access. Could you provide an example on how to do this via command line, wise one? :)

Of course. :)

Backing Up your Forum Database via SSH or Cron (http://www.vbwebmaster.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1183)
