AnthonyCea 09-10-2005, 04:57 PM We just had a guy come to WebMastery and drop a few virus links within the website review forum.
My AV system blocked it but not all your members will be so lucky.
I think all forum owners should start watching the website review posts and delay them until forum management reviews them because they are being used to spam forums big time now and to drop hacker links to virus pages!
Why should folks be able to drive traffic with a website review?
All website reviews should be limited to members with 10 or more posts!!!!
Joeychgo 09-11-2005, 03:02 AM How about an IP?
AnthonyCea 09-11-2005, 10:14 AM I don't have it, just don't let members post live links until they have 10 posts or put website reviews on a delay until a moderator approves the thread because folks are spamming the hell out of forums using reviews as a tactic to get traffic.
No signatures or live links until 10-25 posts, you as a forum owner have to decide on how to protect your forums, eliminate work for yourselves and protect your membership!!!
webfreak08 09-11-2005, 03:45 PM How do you make sure a link doesn't contain a virus without having to open that link?

And, how would this be done?
AnthonyCea 09-11-2005, 04:55 PM There are hacks to keep folks from having live links, Joey said they were under user groups in vBulletin in the past I think.
Yes you have to click on the link to hit the infected server!!
But do you want your members to get damaged by a drive by virus spammer on his first post
The reason that moderators should click on these links first before these threads hit the forum is to make sure that they are not infected sites that download trojan viruses.
I have the best AV software available www.nod32.com and it blocked it, but not everyone would be so lucky if they clicked on the link.
I got the moderators to delete the thread so others did not get burned by this hacker!!
It does not make your forum look so good if it becomes a tool for hackers and webmasters that want to use your website review section to create traffic for their sites over and over!!
There are some forum members out here that just post affiliate links for hosting programs in the hosting sections and that is all they ever do, never contributing to any other threads.
Who in the hell needs members like that
noppid 09-11-2005, 05:15 PM I bet Nixon posted those links.
Removing links is censorship and there should never be any form of censorship on a good forum ever!
