My forum is a very private forum for recovery so I have set it up that guests can not view certain parts of my forum. Now I see someone slipping in through the archives. Can anyone help me understand how to keep them from viewing the parts of the forums that are for members only? I don't understand how they can manage to get in through the archive.
Thanks

I'm pretty sure the same permissions (viewing in this case) are applied to the archive as the rest of the forum.

After Posting this question, I found a feature in the admin panel called Special Forum Archieve veiwing. It is so search engines spiders and look through the site easier. It disabled that feature and zipped up the forum so others can't go in there as well.
I wouldn't mind if this wasn't such a personal and emotionally intensive driven recovery forum for people.
Thanks for posting :) You are right some permissions are applicable but for some reason not all.

They are likely seeing a no permission screen.

They are likely seeing a no permission screen.
When I looked to see what they were viewing from the currently active function it told me this unlogged/unregistered guest has manage to access a thread about diabetes in the recovery section of the forum. When I went into it as an unregistered guest myself I got blank screens but for the part of the forum I allow viewing on. So, I am not altogether certain how they are accessing it. BUT, I think it is one of my users just on a dial up and I am going to ask him how he is getting in there.
I might sound a bit paranoid but I have people spilling their gutts out about their addictions and illnesses. I really can't have that open to the general public. It would be like watching a hidden camera during a group therapy session.

Couldn't you just disable the archive in your admincp?

Unless they have permission to view the particular forum - the archve doesnt show that particular forum. This has been discussed many times because to an Admin, who has full permissions, it looks like all the private forums are accessible.
Log out of your forum, and look at the archive. That'll tell you what a guest / search engine can see.
