is there a comprehensive reason why vb is better than phpbb?

set up? configuration? seo?
i can't find anywhere that categorically lists what the differences are. I understand that the experienced programmer types seem to prefer vb,
but what about someone who only knows advertising and marketing? :o
is it really that much better? or different?

thanks in adv...

What is more important is the following:

Is the community of users going to like it better than phpBB:confused:

My answer to that is yes, I have posted on all types of forums and vBulletin is my favorite for speed, organization (quickly finding my posts and subscribed threads), look and feel are factors also!

If your users like the forum they will hang around, but it is not only the software, your design can make or brake you also, I have seen vBulletin forums that I would not spend 2 minutes on because of a bad custom design!

Well, VB is better out of the box then PHPbb as far as SEO.

Ive never managed a PHPbb forum so I cant tell from first hand experience which is better. However, I have always liked vBulletin and never desired to look for something different.

I think a better question would be: give me one area that phpbb is better at than vBulletin.

Answer: None:D

Low blow GFC, there are some great phpBB forums, but they have sound programmers as tech guys always working on the code!

If you are not a coder I would stay with vBulletin:)

@Mortgages: It depends on what you are trying to accomplish. As the old adage goes... You pays your money and you takes your choice eh!

There is little doubt that the fact that vB os a commercial product and phpBB is Open Source leads one to believe that vB is a superior product than phpBB. There are countless arguments and debates on vB.com that explain and justify the differences between the two products, but coming from a person who for 18 months used phpBB and now for a further 18 months has ised vB... there is simply no comparison. vB is far superior - in every way.

From professional customer support on vB.com, instead of many power crazed and inexperienced moderators/staff on phpBB; through to the out-of-the-box functionality already provided on vB that isn't there on phpBB. You also have a multitude of security issues with phpBB, as well as massive lead times and unwarranted secrecy for new product releases. Ask about phpBB on vB.com and you get professional courteous answers, but ask about vB (or any other BB app) on phpBB and you risk being banned by a 14 - 16 yr old moderator.

Now, don't get me wrong, phpBB served me very well for 18 months, and I built up my largest online community based on it; but when I migrated to vB, I discovered what running and managing an online community is really all about.

I would almost guarantee that if you can afford to purchase vB and move to it from phpBB or use it instead of phpBB, you will not regret it.

I agree, without a background in coding webmasters have no business using phpBB in the first place and need something out of the box that has support!

Plus we have the help of the guys here on forum who are willing to help out those using vB.
