Database Size - Purge or not?

hey guys, last nights backup on my VB database yielded a file of about 550mb.

the forum has been online for a year (~1500 members) and has never been purged or cleaned meaning the threads from the first month are still active ones that can be revived.

i was curious to see how many people purge/clean out their DB from time to time. I consider doing it but i really hate losing a lot of those threads because there is som very good info in there that comesup when members run searches etc...

lemme hear your thoughts and experiences on purging your VB Databases...

thanks

550 is way too big for 1500 members, I have around 1400 members and 300k posts and our db size is around 180mb.
