Thread Crapping

You know it's bound to happen. A thread that's humming along and some trolls come in to derail it. Sometimes it's subtle, other times it's blatant, but either way it's designed to get a thread closed (and get the ire of staff).

So how do you handle these problem children? Do you warn them to shoo, or do you lay the belt down hard?

Depends. If, for instance its some n00b who's only made one post, and its something like a picture of tubgirl, then I delete the offending post and ban him. If its something less serious, and there doesn't appear to be malicious intent, then a friendly PM works best.

What would you do in this thread crapping situation?

I'm tempted to answer the little "yes, masssster" Igor with this: "What you're going to do big boy, throw a hump?" but wouldn't that just feed the troll some more?

I take it the troll is a little perturbed...

Efforts to get him over here to resolve this issue is on a stand still.

What's the matter Creepshow, you can only fight a disabled woman?

Well, the spill over from the vBAdvanced and PP issue seems to be running an ugly course at vB.

It's very interesting that Joey's contest thread is closed, while the thread in question above is still allowed to stay open -- despite folks not getting along too (and it being even more ugly). Could it be because mentioning the real reason the same crappers are crapping is being told?

Or can it be because it's about another gallery script (which may compete with vB's)?

No, I dont fault Wayne for closing it. He was right. It turned into a big argument for nothing. I would have handled it different, but I dont think he was unreasonable.

It turned out to be a big argument because the same players are playing. And riding a fence isn't going to make it better. It's either you're with us or against us mentality.

I was perhaps one of those players Joey, and too I believe he closed it for the reasons Chris suggests. He could have removed any offending posts in exactly the same manner as he (or someone else did) on another article contest thread, and then close it, but no, he kept them in and then closed it. He could have removed offending posts and left it there too... alas not.

Totally biased attitude towards another site that runs article contests, but who pays out nothing for the prizes offered. Maybe you should start another thread...

Time to raise the prize bar. :D

It's a "do as I say, not what I do" situation. I suspect folks who are really into the screws are getting paid somehow (like being an affiliate), which makes this a personal issue. End-users will debate things, but it'll be like the WTG vs forum type debate, it's not at a personal level. This one is, so I suspect $$$$ is the loyality factor (ironically, maybe also political -- personal fights don't become one unless there's some allegience higher than just some software). And considering there's some hustlers in that forum trying to scrape a buck, even more so.

Don't like the uneveness of thread closures, nor the thread closetd that come in say junk like, "this thread's going to get a lock", then a minute later it does. Don't like disagreements just close the whole vB forum down, as there's plenty there every day, not pick and choose then close.

But it's their forum, and this is your forum, so what goes crappy over there, can be finished here. Which is fine -- it's a free world.

Well, the thread finally got closed. Which is fine by me. Thread crapping can work both ways, and the need to push and push for more dissing, is how the dissers get dissed themselves. :)

See how PR works? ;)

Well, I just wasted 20 minutes of my life thinking there was something worth seeing here. What did anybody really do in that "other" thread that was bad? Seems to me like a simple difference in views.

The only think I found disturbing was the person from this forum trying to bait those in that forum over to here. What was the point of that?
