Hi fellow webmasters.
I'm thinking about setting up a contest on my homepage.
And since I don't really have any members yet (10 (quite embarrassing :( )), I don’t know if its fair to require people to be registered and have at least 1 post, to be able to participate in the competition.
What do you think - Will it scare people away, if they have to post on the board, or don't people mind to do that?
- The problem also lies in: What will people do if they don't have anything to post?
Hope you have some expertise to me from you - Its Christmas, you know :)
Regards,
Challenge

Tell them that their introduction post automatically qualifies them for the contest. ;)

Make a topic that's general enough to spark conversation, yet controversial to draw traffic.
Negatives attract more attention, too. Complain about a Firefox flaw, then goto one of their rah rah groups with your forum sig. You're sure to gain traffic QUICK!
Same applies to religious topics (talk about the evils of Atheism, then goto a alt.atheism with your sig); or better, do the same about Christianity and goto the 6th largest forum online with your sig advertizing the topic. <evil grin>
Have to lead the mice by a trail of cheese. Then keep them there with what they crave. It may not be the topics you like, but when trying to get keepers you need to be very flexible and give them all the cheese they want, within reason.

That sounds great - Just don't know what to do, but i'm sure to work it out! :p Thanks!
Noppid,
I'm afraid i don't like that concept - It feels a bit artificial to me! :)
But thanks for the tips!

Hmmm, I see many reasons why some posters annoy others and even cause a thread to be 5 pages... maybe those annoying posters really did those posts intentionally ? to drive traffic? related to admin or something?

I asked the admin if I could end the thread but he said that it is good to allow people to express what they think and feel and there was no need for me to overmoderate and so I didn't anymore mind any post of the same kind, no matter how harsh few posters are when they put their posts.
