The suspense is killing me...

I converted from phpBB to vBulletin a week or two ago, and until recently all that's shown in Google has been the old site... Over the last few days most of the old site is disappearing and stuff from the new site has been appearing. But Googlebot was staying away.

Until yesterday morning. Googlebot moved in and hasn't left, it's been pretty much going through the whole site page by page.

It's taking a long time, though, it's gone through almost 1450 pages in a day and a half. MSNbot stopped by today and has started as well, it's gone through 86 pages so far but hasn't left.

I'm looking forward to seeing what the new index results look like once it's finished. Like the title says, the suspense is killing me!

No, nothing major. Just made sure that the right tags were on the pages (h1, h2), that the page title was in the meta description, etc... Nothing too serious. Plus built & submitted some sitemaps to Google & Yahoo.

Mike, this sounds like a great subject for a new thread, you should start one and ask which spiders are good, bad or ugly and which ones you should block, sort of a how to deal with spiders thread!

I'm seeing changes on some dc's... 64.233.161.105, for example, shows 94 pages, mostly from the phpBB site. But 64.233.171.99 and a bunch of others are 320 pages, the ones on the front page are from the vBulletin site. Still a load of phpBB pages in there, though.

And none of them are showing any inbound links... Still sandboxed, I guess.

You have to look at your logs to see the story, your day will come if you think long term and do a good job with the forum!

A sure test is to make one Nixon sucks and is a Nazi post, Noppid does this to test the spiders, it shows how well his SEO is working on his forums, you only make one Nixon is a Nazi post, if it comes up the next day you know your SEO is fantastic!

Oh. I've been using AWStats for that, mostly. And the keyword tracker at Digital Point, plus the search engine saturation tool at pagerank.net.

Yep... Not a whole lot of new members, maybe 1 or 2 a week.

There's 52 members, 416 threads and 5448 posts. It's doing ok, not grand.

Build slowly. I suspect that for many forums, critical mass is about 500 members with perhaps 20% of those active and frequent visitors. Growth after that is often exponential if you have a popular topic and good content.

What you need to focus on is creating new great content everyday, 1 or 2 good posters can jump start threads and topics, so you have to treat your best writers like they are kings and queens and make them feel like an important part of the forum, then you will have a base to build on!

Here's something to think about...

I've got 2 sites that I've been working on. Both are configured pretty much the same.

The first, HappyHourPub.com is a vBulletin site, with 10K+ pages, and the vBSEO Google Sitemap hack installed.

The second, ForumOwners.com is a vBulletin site, only a couple of hundred pages, the vBSEO rewrite hack and the vBSEO Google Sitemap hack installed.

I installed the sitemap hack on both at the same time, and have them both set to build the sitemap once a day and ping Google when it's done.

HappyHourPub has 131 pages in Google's index.
ForumOwners has 283 pages in Google's index.

I've submitted both to the same directories, both are in the dp co-op. The HappyHourPub has a couple of PR5 and PR6 links from another site. Googlebot visits both sites on a regular basis.

I'm gonna have to keep an eye on this...

I was reading them all along, remember I'm a member of the Pub ;) I followed the threads you were posting on and chose not to reply, but really, hun... you went in like a bulldozer and criticized everything, then bullied some long-time members when they questioned why you were complaining about stuff. Mike invited you over there to have FUN... not to publicly tell him how to run his site... that should have been done, if at all, via pm's. Bad taste... very bad :rolleyes:

Na, it is the other way around, Mike made a bunch of changes based on what I said and (even had links that were going to the wrong pages and added a suggetions forum because I asked) they all attacked me for no reason because they are "the power structure" and I was the new guy coming on too strong for their tastes!

They need to check their egos at the door, I don't hold back on any forum I am on, never have and never will, this is not my first go round, but it may be theirs!

I do realize that you were a help to an extent sweetie... but there is such a thing as coming on too strong. I thought you did, and so did how many other people? Can't everyone BUT you be wrong... ;)

Just admit that you may have come on a bit strong and be done with it... everyone makes mistakes. *shrug*

What I am telling you about is a mood on a forum, when people get into this defending mode that they were in thinking that I was attacking their leader Mike when that was far from the truth and they started insulting me, a new member when I was helping THEM out, I don't take kindly to that and I will proceed to tell all comers to go straight to hell :eek:

This is exactly why Joey is a smash hit as a forum owner, because he listens to his members and takes it all with a grain of salt!

oh AC you just don't get it!! Look at how long you've been here. These people know how to take you. At the Pub, you're a brand new member... big... HUGE... difference. You went in like a bulldozer, and they took offense... I would have too. You wouldn't have, if someone had done that at your site?
I KNOW that you were trying to be helpful... you just went about it the wrong way, lol. simple. But......... you're right and everyone else there is wrong... got it ;)

Mike is a big man, he will get over it, we are still friends, like I said I get on Joey a lot worse and he does not boot me out because I fight with some members here!

In the end a lot of people made mistakes (all of us) and we can all learn from it! :o

After a hell of a long time, I've finally gotten most of my site into Google's index. Over 9500 pages right now. Still no links, though, I guess it's still in the sandbox.
