purchasing a text link on a pr7 site, will it help?

Hi,

I have just opened a new forum with a new domain, so obviously it has 0 PR. I have been now submitting my forum to directories and search engines. I have now come in contact with someone who will sell me a text link on his site which is a PR 7 for $30/month. You think this will help with my site getting ranked? in other words, will it make any difference for my site?

shoudnt hurt. But it all depends. If he sells alot of links, or has alot of outgoing links on the page it may dilute the value of the PR 7. One PR7 wont do much in terms of ging your site higher PR. Several will help, especially f you have alot of lower PR links. It also wont help immediately, but will help more over a few months.

In addition to what Joey said, I'd recommend you place your advertisements with your primary goal being to gain traffic from the site where your ad shows. Think of the effect it might have in the search engines as a secondary goal. The key there is that search engines are beginning to value on-topic links more and more.
