subscribing to threads by default

I noticed that this method is used in this forum, as well as a few others I visit.

As an admin, has this method been productive for you, or have you gotten negative feedback from it?

as a member of a forum that does this, do you like it or do you find it annoying?

I have considered setting it up like that when a new member registers, but haven't decided if it was a good idea or not.

Thanks

I think its useful - it lets members know when their post is responded to - and works nice when old threads are dragged up

I think whether it is the default or not most forum members choose notification.

Yeah, for new members it should be set by default that way!

Most people that are new to the forum game don't know how to set their options anyway!

I think most people actually do expect to be subscribed to a topic they respond to by default (I do). So, on my 2 forums that I am running it is turned on by default.

What about default email subscriptions? Is it annoying or actually helpful?

I think that is what they are talking about here bro....

There is nothing wrong with it, there is a remove subscription link in the emails anyway!

Plus the member can log in and turn it off if they want to!

I think the issue is, should it be turned on for new members automatically
