New vBulletin only Directory - submissions needed!

I've just acquired www.top100vbulletin.com and in order to make it work I need to have atleast 100 sites in the directory and atleast 10 per category.

I've trawled around and found a fair few but would appreciate your submissions to speed the process up.

The only special requirement is that external.php is turned on.

I'll be adding a ranking algorithm and the top 10 sites will be featured on the home page.

Sarah

Please change VB Webmasters to --- vBulletin Webmaster --- thanks for thinking of us though :)

I also submitted an Automotive Catagory

I suggested a category. I guess we all know what that is ;)

I suggested a category. I guess we all know what that is ;)I'm a bit cautious about having an adult section. It's not a part of the web that I embrace (old married prude, I guess, but on one forum I'm a "wannabe mylf" so there's some hope?) Anyway one of the requirements is that the External Data is turned on giving me http://www.exquisitelyerotic.net/forums/external.php so that I can a) provide more inbound links and b) guage your traffic.

I could always bury the category in sports and recreation with an appropriate warning to keep trolls like gworld at bay but from taking a look maybe I should add "creative writing"?

I'm to 81 forums and surprised at how many vbulletin forums don't have the External Data turned on. Presumably that's an oversight?

LOL... if the category's going to be buried, why would I bother to add my link? ;)
Creative writing sounds very good. I don't know if you've visited my site, but
it's not a porn site, not in the least. I like to describe it as a site for the "over
18 crowd". Big difference between adult and porn ;)

btw, how do I turn on external data? I've never seen that...

LOL... if the category's going to be buried, why would I bother to add my link? ;)maybe "less obvious" is a better way of putting it - still within 3 clicks but discrete :o I've called it "for the grown ups (http://www.top100vbulletin.com/16)"btw, how do I turn on external data? I've never seen that...Go to the vBulletin Admin Control Panel, click on vBulletin Options (top of the menu) and this will display a list of setting categories. Down the bottom, probably 3rd from the bottom, will be "External Data". In there you will find 3 choices, make sure RSS is checked.

I see what you did, that's a great place for it! Now... what do I enter in the RSS Feed box? lol

You mean XML feeds for us dummies right Sarah??? :D

sarahk
01-06-2006, 01:08 PM
Yes, there are 3 options, Javascript, RSS and XML - it's the rss that I need, but that's just a form of XML anyway.

I'm up to 105!!! Woohoo, the site can earn it's name now :)

Sarah, talk to us in non-coder terms from now on, it is a real turn on for us! :D

105 links in 10 categories

I thought it was top 100. So if now, or if you're still adding links, I suggest best-board.com

sarahk

I'll check it out.

The Top 100 get special treatment - higher profile etc - the wannabes get to slog it out and hope to make the cut.

I finally got around to adding my site... thanks Sarah! You're sitting on 100 (http://www.top100vbulletin.com/top100.html) as of this morning, which is really good because I have 144 forums in all. Make sure you get some of your members to vote and leave comments.

Out of curiousity, how are those rankings determined?

I'm assuming on rank and hits, but how are they combined?

sarahk
01-18-2006, 01:59 PM
That would be telling!

But it's not hits. I track PR, forum activity and the ratings given by people who have visited my site.

Just listed forums will have an artificial boost in their first week to help them get noticed.

sarahk

I'm to 268 sites which is really awesome because the top 100 list (http://www.top100vbulletin.com/top100.html) actually means something!!! The categories are sorted by ranking so for sites like Ohiosweetheart (http://www.top100vbulletin.com/16)'s the ranking can still help.

I've also moved all the vB focussed forums (http://www.top100vbulletin.com/38) into their own category.

Peggy

hey it's lookin' good!

sarahk

And I've now got 300+!

I'm getting a couple of submissions every day which is great.

Alot of people don't know that vBulletin provides RSS feeds "out of the box" so I've written a tutorial: vBulletin’s inbuilt RSS feeds (http://sarahk.pcpropertymanager.com/blog/vbulletins-inbuilt-rss-feeds/248/)

I've just reskinned the directory, have a few SEO tweaks to do yet but I'd be interested in any feedback...

Plus I now have a section for vBulletin forums focussed on vBulletin issues (http://www.top100vbulletin.com/38).
