Usually you have to pay for cpanel -

time at Asmallorange has a new program where you buy your server, and the monthly costs are much lower. Its like $2k for a good server

Any additional info on the asmallorange server purchase. I would be interested in this but can't find anything on their site regarding this as an option.

contact billing@asmallorange.com

I cant speak for them. Last I heard, you could buy a server for around $1500 and then its like $200 a month in fees for software, bandwidth, management, etc. Im not sure on the monthly fee, it may be lower.

I recommend 15minuteservers.com. I've had very close to 100% uptime over the last two years. I have a nice P4 3.2, 2 gigs ram & 2x80 gig hard drives, 1000 gigs monthly b/w, 100mbps connection for $149/mo. Very good server that hosts several busy forums.

Managing a server is easy. Go self-managed. Don't pay double or triple for a managed server. It's a ripoff. If you can admin a forum, then you can manage a server. :)
