One of the problems we have with some new members is they register and start sending private messages without posting.
If I make the first level of membership 'less than 20 posts' - how do I turn off private messaging privileges for that group only?

lol, I just got spammed by 'mwf' the new member on this forum via PM. They haven't posted here yet but the PM's are flying! Another example of why I want this setting.

As for how do you disable PM's - it's a per usergroup setting. Turn it off for the group with whom you do not wish to allow PM's.

So if I make the user title 'Junior Member' set the post range from 0 to 30 posts, how do I make that user title it's own usergroup so I can stop them using PM. thus enabling them to graduate to the 'regestered members' usergroup when they have posted 30 times... then enabling them to use PM?

create a usergroup named Junior member. set the requirements you want. In the setting for allow private messages, click no.
as for graduating to the next usergroup, you have to use promotions.
go to usergroups/promotions, and set your promotion requirements.
