hi there
My goal is to set a forum using vbulletin but before I set up my site, i need to know if it is wise to add alot of mods/hacks to vbulletin. Can you tell me if this is just way too much to add to one forum
vBSEO
Commbull Community Bulletin 3.5
vBSEO Google/Yahoo Sitemap Generator for vBulletin 3.5.x
vBadvanced Links Directory
EZ Archive Ads System
Welcome Headers
Do you think this too many to add ons and still get optimal functioning from vbulletin?
thanks

Im running many more then that on a very busy forum. No problem. :)
I would suggest you reconsider vBSEO however. Its not really necessary IMO.

I have alot more than that on my site as well.
May I make a suggestion though? One of the most important hacks you could have, imo, is the Automatic Welcome PM hack. As soon as someone registers they receive a private message from you, welcoming them to your community. When I installed this, I noticed a marked increase in activity from new members.

Deep, gravelly voice: Well, I didn't notice a marked increase in activity.
Curt, sharp voice: Then get your bloody hair cut!

Forego the SEO hacks... search engines spider/index vbulletin just fine. I like the Welcome Headers hack, just on general principles. I haven't noticed that it's had impact on new users, etc. but it hasn't hurt either.
I don't run ads on my site, so can't comment on those.
However, in general, if a hack brings a positive experience to your users, then use it.

hold on I'll find it for you Tammy
[EDIT] Here's the hack Tammy http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=100314
UNfortunately, it doesn't work in 3.6
Just as unfortunate, the hack author isn't supporting this hack any longer, and people are practically crying on this thread.
I wish SOMEONE would take it and upgrade it. I miss it on my forum :(

I'm confused. I see a link to a mass pm hack linked and the question was about the auto welcome pm. Did I miss something?

Tammy... if you're running on 3.6 you don't need that hack. It's been integrated into vB with the 3.6 upgrade

We are talking about the Automatic Welcome PM right?
I messed up a few posts up, confusing everyone as well as myself with the super mass PM

ok, go into your ACP --- >> vBulletin Options --->> User Registration Options.
There's welcome email and welcome PM. They even make it very easy to edit both

i installed the hack and there were 2 areas to send an auto pm (on the same page about 3 sections seperating each other) on the 3.6 version...

for the automatic pm you didn't need the hack. Read a few posts back, lol.
It's already a standard feature of vB 3.6
